A suddenly appearing portal to an unknown world - to the major powers it may be no more than a mere asset for toppling the international order. But to our protagonists it is an invaluable opportunity to broaden knowledge, friendship, and ultimately their perspective towards the world.

Which i found annoying.
Eventually, i realised that the author simply wanted a "fantasy world with a camp of modern troops" type setting.

I've been saying for a while now that I think GATE would adapt really well into a American movie/TV series.
Obviously, you'd have to cut down on the moe and scale up the OPERATOR military circlejerking to do it, but otherwise I think it'd port pretty well.
