Rakudai seems to have Ikki won the big tournament finally, and I'm slightly curious to know if everything in between that conclusion and where the anime left is something other than tournament fights. The LN gives more insight into what goes on in his head, which, combined with his bad temper and the fact that he's far more ruthless towards anyone he considers a threat, puts him pretty far above the other two to me.

It's Takeru's circumstances that makes him a more interesting character. Given the setting of the other MC's in question, he wins by that alone.

Being at a higher stakes game in nearly all of his fights brings out more character. He's constantly reminded of his indecisiveness regarding his sister in his past but still perseveres to "find a compromise" in risking the world's safety to save her that clashes with the ideals of two a few other power-players in the series.
The anger portion is pretty important too. His family background and curse naturally puts him into a violent disposition and he was "that kid" that got into fights and was generally an edgy-asshole but previously interacting with his sister made him calm down and getting his ass-kicked by Ouka made him someone completely different than who he was before.
