From what I hear the game is fun if you enjoy jrpgs.
I think Cyber Sleuth does some things better than past games did. It eliminates a lot of the dull, monotonous grind and you actually do need intelligence higher than that of a slug to play it. Now, it's not a DIFFICULT game by any means, and it's heavily flawed in a lot of ways. Honestly, it's about as stupidly piss-easy as a lot of Bamco games.
But. AT LEAST it doesn't consist almost entirely of mindlessly mashing X or doing absolutely nothing while your Digimon beats up another Digimon, occasionally giving an entirely meaningless command just for the hell of it, or throwing a floppy disk at it once its health bar starts to get a little low. A blithering retard can beat the standard Digimon World games.

Digimon world games are literally only about grinding, but that's classic digimon even with the v-pets. I could see why you'd want to try and keep that design, but fuck does it not work well in the modern age.
It looks like Next-Order might be making a few adjustments on tamer input so we'll see what direction they take the format.

In case you don't already know, I have a casual interest in tabletop games, and have dreamed of writing a Digimon tabletop RPG for years, which is why I felt it worthwhile to put a space for stats in some versions of my template.
Most people don't care, but for those who do, I intend to make a template with even more detailed stats and a list of abilities.
What I want to know now is, how many stats would you tolerate? I'm looking at this from the perspective of a tabletop RPG, where any action your digimon could take involves a stat. Right now, I think Agility, Body, Mind and Spirit should cover everything, with Spirit being used by social skills as in Savage Worlds.
The Will stat derived from Spirit is a resource to limit abilities in combat, and the Mind stat should have some combat use but I haven't thought of it yet.
How can I make this better? I've looked at most of the Digimon video games, and the /tg/ homebrew obviously, and they don't all use the same set of stats.
Also, for those of you who played Cyber Sleuth, how do elemental weaknesses work in that?

I played it and beat it. I enjoyed it thoroughly because the selling point for me was the likeable characters and existence of a story.
Before I turn into a broken record about the game, and before someone jumps on me about the game being flawed, well. It's true. There are things that can be improved, but for what it is, I found it genuinely fun.
If you like Digimon, give it a chance.
I'm already ready to buy Next 0rder when it comes outand post events for the thread like I did with Decode.

Afterward, they both buddied up with Nokia because they had met previous eight years ago; their "first" meeting is nearly identical to the one they have in present time, hence why Agumon notes that there's something "nostalgic" about Nokia.

So is Cyber Sleuth the only thing in which Yggdrasil appears and literally does nothing wrong? I mean, it was corrupted by Eater and tried to wipe out humanity, but absolutely no part of that is its own doing in the slightest. In X-Evolution, it went crazy because as the host computer of the Digital World, it was, from a performance standpoint, inadequate. One might argue that that was not necessarily its fault, and simply the result of its own inherent limitations as a host computer, but at the same time, it's not as if an outside entity influenced its decision making. Any issues that arose from it came from itself and its own limitations.
In Savers, it basically acted like a traditional asshole god with relatively good, or at least somewhat rational intentions. But it was still an asshole god, almost Greek in a sense.
Generally, though, whenever something goes wrong, it does share some of that blame.
But in Cyber Sleuth, literally all the problems with Yggdrasil are the result of Eater. It wasn't its fault. In fact, one could actually make the argument that things would be much worse if not for some of Yggdrasil's actions, like sending Alphamon to Earth.

I prefer standing in the gym and pressing X (Digimon World) or playing microgames (Re:Digitize) to grinding via log-winded turn-based JRPG battles. At least the former is quick, efficient, and allows for targeted stat development.
Given the emphasis on action and flashy fights in Digimon, a real-time combat system where you can actually control your Digimon directly once you engage in battle (think Eternal Sonata or Valkryia Chronicles) might work better than what we have now. If I want generic turn-based combat I can just play Pokémon instead; and while I like the World games, I admit that just standing there and spamming recoveries isn't fun gameplay.Ideally they would just steal Grandia III's 10/10 battle system, but I doubt that's going to happen.

That's oversimplifying it. Dukemon was Omegamon's close friend in X-Evolution, but was having doubts about Yggdrasil's actions, while Omegamon was unwavering in his loyalty. To get Omegamon to stop and think about what they've been doing, Dukemon challenged Omegamon to a battle, and (purposely) lost, so that the shock of losing his friend would shake Omegamon awake.
At the end of the film they've gone back to being best friends.
No sequel.

I went through them all earlier, and especially the second one is worth a read. I never knew that Digimon was already big in Japan long before the anime; how the tournaments helped popularise the v-pets and how the metagame looked at the time is also quite interesting.

Because Jou is reliability, not ability. He is set apart because even though he is honestly incompetent, he still will always try his best and put all his effort in.
Also Japanese college entrance exams are fucking vicious, and for someone aiming for medical school like he is he needs to bust his ass. Remember, if Jou messes up his entrance exam thats his own life getting fucked to an extreme degree. It is hard to get into schools of choice for medicine in Japan, and they do not look kindly to people who didn't get in on their first try.

Just take the stats from Digimon World—HP, MP, ATK, DEF, SPD, and BRN. They cover all the important things, and you can do it like the games and treat ATK like Strength if it's needed (ditto with other checks outside of combat).
Depending on what you're fashioning your RPG after, I'd also suggest using a d100 system rather than a d20 one. If you go by the anime or manga, a Digimon's power level is usually equivalent to the emotion/determination/shounen rage of the Digimon and/or its tamer at the given time.
Its ability to overcome the opponent is therefore more of an innate trait rather than dependent upon the opponent or the situation. Rolling whether you succeed a check vs your stats seems like a better representation of this than rolling against a DC.
You could even steal ideas from Pendragon and have a “Spirit” mechanic whereby characters can go against their values and fall into despair for a while if you want to go full anime. Not needed if you want to stick closer to the v-pets or the World games though.

Because first you have a Dragon Man and a Cyborg. Dragon anything and cyborgs tend to be among the stronger things you can find in the Digital World. I mean, look at the Royal Knights. So even if Wargreymon and Metalgarurumon aren't the strongest things around, they're still better than fodder like GranKuwagamon. And on top of that, those two fuse to form Omegamon, a Holy Knight Digimon, which are usually among the stronger Digimon around.
Then you have the Holy Beast Hououmon and the Holy Dragon Seraphimon. Holy ANYTHING is usually strong as hell. And you also have Seraphimon, which, despite its piss-poor track record, ON PAPER, it's actually one of the stronger things around. Supposedly.
So as far as tiers go, Taichi, Yamato, Hikari, Sora and Takeru got some pretty great stuff.
But then you have the rest. Rosemon, HerakleKabuterimon and Vikemon. Ultimate-level Digimon are, by their very definition, basically the elite of the Digital World. The strongest things around. But that's usually only be default, because it's the highest level you can obtain (Super Ultimates notwithstanding). And things like Rosemon showcase that better than others. Because at the top, you have shit like Holy Knights, God Man Digimon, Demon Lords, Holy Beasts, etc., etc. Those are the ones who stand at the top of Olympus. And at the base of the mountain's where you're gonna find shit like Rosemon and GranKuwagamon. Lowly humans (i.e., anything Perfect or lower) is never even going to get to SEE Olympus, much less live anywhere near it, but Rosemon, Vikemon and HerakleKabuterimon are basically the millionaires to the Holy-whatevers' decillionaires.

Look, speaking from the point of view of a species which has actually lost the bulk of their biological combat functions through evolution, if you, in your literal natural state, have a fucking cannon, a weapon of war, for an arm, you probably evolved for war.
I mean, dinosaur? Giant wolf? Giant beetle? Sure, you can say that those creatures aren't necessarily evolved for war. Breathing fire is a bit much, but you can still make an argument. But, and here's the kicker: You can only reach Perfect by constantly fighting and making an constant effort to grow stronger beyond the basic needs of your daily life. That's what it was like in the original V-Pets; you could only reach Perfect by having a particular battle record. At that point, you're not growing stronger purely in order to protect yourself. You're growing stronger in order to defeat others.
Also, ordinarily, the vast majority of Digimon don't actually raise their young. In the standard continuity, as well as Adventure, all Digimon are born and raised in the Village of Beginnings. Aside from in Xros Wars, Digimon don't actually breed. So the majority of Digimon don't have anything resembling parental instincts.

That's probably more or less the case, yes.
I mean, there are a few exceptions. Angemon is an Adult Digimon clearly made for combat. Most Angel and Demon Digimon basically exist to fight. Each other, in particular. There's also a Digimon that is literally a giant gun. And all Armor Digimon also exist to fight, since the entire point of artificially triggering a pseudo-evolution is to fight. Also Spirit Evolution.
On the other hand, there are some Ultimate Digimon who are entirely pacifistic in nature, right down to their very cores. MarinAngemon and Venusmon are the prime examples of this.
But in general, yes, that's more or less it. Take the Greymon line. Goes from Agumon to Greymon. At this point, it's just the standard progression from Child to Adult. Sure they breathe fire, but fire has uses beyond combat. But then Greymon mechanizes itself and develops the ability to shoot nuclear missiles from its chest. NO ONE can make the argument that Metalgreymon does not, in fact, exist for combat. And when it evolves into Wargreymon, I mean, shit, it literally has the word "war" in its name. It developed a humanoid body, covered itself in Chrome Digizoid armor and has weapons developed explicitly for killing dragons, all for the express purpose of fighting.

In Dawn/Dusk they were categorized as Perfects. Magnamon even had a jogress with SuperStarmon to form Susannoomon. (Digimon have to be the same level to jogress.) Susanoomon was a combination of ALL the spirits which makes it an even weirder evolution. So basically in videogames and other media they do whatever they want with armours, spirits and xros wars Digimon.
The earlier dawn/dusk games had you evolve into them from adults or something too I dunno.

The armours were perfect level even though you armour evolved into them. When you go under evolution charts they're all under perfect and they jogress with perfects.
Maybe it was to not fuck up Tailmon's placement in the chart in game since it would have went Adult to Adult and the game never displayed a line like that before.

I do see a certain logic in that line. Scarecrows protect fields where vegetables are grown, hence the scarecrow evolves into a potato dinosaur. Then the potato dinosaur blossoms into a flower dominatrix. (Potato plants actually have lovely flowers.)
