This is the problem. Its obvious Ishida said it will have different plot! and yes I've read the manga.
Regardless from the manga Root A was a great show and it has a great OST.
The finale was great and depressed in the same time, I think its the only show from this year that made me cry. maybe because they finally make a conclusion that Hide is dead. and that finale leave a major impression to me why Root A is my AOTY.

Over-arching story makes things interesting once more stuff is revealed
The bad:
Too many characters means that within 12 episodes, they do not receive equal focus. On top of that the regular human beings that pass through are only seen for an episode or two (depending on which short story) and then never seen again.
After revealing some secrets here and there, they don't do anything else with them and only "Kuro's" story is focused on the most. Death Billiards, despite being shorter and not revealing too much about its world and characters (aside from the old and young man) was a superior work because Death Parade does nothing with what it has. The latter came across to me as if they were just throwing out characters and stories and plot points and not giving a damn about them unless they referred to "Kuro". If they didn't care, why the fuck was I supposed to care. I at least FELT something and cared about what was going on with Death Billiards.
