Lol, I hope something like this happens in the LN, it's been foreshadowed too much for it not too happen.

A story can end in only so many ways. When you realize that there's limited space for the writer's imagination in a story like this, you may also realize it's the journey that matters in the end, not the conclusion. My advice is to learn appreciate what's in front of you instead of obsessing over closure.
I'll never be able to understand Overlord. I'm just a duck.
>>134916907
>A story can end in only so many ways.
Anon, there are billions of ways. You never would've guessed that FMA 03 would end withEd being transported to 1920s fucking Germany and meeting Hitlet and Dietrich Eckart in the form of a woman
>>134916907
A story can end in more ways than you can imagine, just because you cannot imagine something does not mean it is out of the stories realm.
Either way even with a finite amount of endings there id no telling which one we will get. Thats why I like reading.
>>134916907
>you may also realize it's the journey that matters in the end, not the conclusion
A story with a shit conclusion is a shit story.
The climax and payoff are the tantamount of a literary work.
That shit might fly in video games or action movies, but not in books.
>>134917331
>A story with a shit conclusion is a shit story.
War and Peace was pretty bad bra
>>134916282
how do you know that? I could see it being like that but I was missing any punctuation points, or context. maybe I'm being dumb? care to explain anon?
>>134917383
>>134916282
Oh I get it now, she's the one saying it.
>>134917073
>>134917164
Well, I guess you could make up with a number of nonsensical ways for a conclusion that a reader would have never expected. Still, I mean, it's easy to come up with an ending. Does it really matter that much especially in a story like Overlord that draws it's inspiration from the fact that things didn't have to end? I mean, look at how the whole thing started - at the conclusion of a different world. I would say it's the adventure and the characters that push things forward, and there's so much potential for endless nuances in that department. Treating this whole thing like something with a clear goal in mind that should end at the finish line of a long marathon just feels wrong.
Ost when?
>>134917433
Stop asking, you know when.
>>134917376
But War and Peace has a completely satisfactory climax and conclusion with the french/russian forces clashing, Pierre being saved, and reuniting with Natasha.

Isn't there something like Flesh Graft spell in D&D or something that could be used to attach a dick in him? It probably wouldn't be that surprising if Ygg had items allowing to change race, I doubt Ainz would do something like that.
>>134917589
>it also probably...
Fixed.
>>134917589
There are items to change race, he needed a book to become undead. He even has spares in the treasury to make a human not human anymore. But he already used it once to become the overlord class undead and you can only change race once.
No reason he couldnt slap on a zomby member though. Or a bone one. Demiurge has even talked about cloning him (though he didnt realize it was cloning.)
It may be best if he adopted and raised an heir.
>>134917704
>Bone penis
Could you say its RIBBED for her pleasure?
>>134917735
Damnit carlos.
>>134917589
Graft Flesh was a feat, and it only really works out for Silthilar and people with Silthilar friends in practice (Silthilar are incredibly advanced flesh workers).
I doubt Maruyama knows enough D&D to even identify a Silthilar, but who knows, maybe one of the guild members was one. Tabula Smaragdina was an Illithid after all.. but those are already popular in japanese culture.
He'd probably be better off with some sort of Polymorph equivalent.
>>134917426
I know how Overlord will end.Ainz will find out that the DMMO designers planned for this to occur, but did not realize anyone else would "stay" after closing time. They plan to overlay the real world's existence with only their own--their DMMO world. Already the real world is collapsing and physics abnormalities are tearing it apart. Ainz must sacrifice the world he has grown accustomed to in order to save the real world. He finds and challenges the DMMO -gods- and after a hard struggle defeats them with the power of all his minions. The DMMO world ceases to exist, but Ainz also in the process disappears.
I bet one of the reasons Maruyama made Albedo for the LN was so people in the internet would take threads and threads discussing how grow a penis in a skeleton.
>Fluder Paradyne!

>GUARDS! Open the package.

As the boxes ripped open, Fluder drops on his knees in tears.
>"My pristine condition signed collector's edition Ainz Oaal Gown action figure box with limited edition Nazarick concept art..."

>>134918498
>The real ending will be just as shit.
Being a pessimist without precedent is worthless cynicism. Overlord has had satisfactory climaxes so far.
>Welcome to the ending to any MMOanime where the main is "stuck" in an MMO
Ainz is not stuck in Yggdrasil, he's stuck in an alternate fantasy universe that shares some similarities to Yggdrasil.

It isn't. It's the experience of a human wasting their life rather than someone who has real world experiences.
>>134918612
Hardly. At this point we don't even know if there is a "real world" to go back to anymore.
It's a metaphysical distinction, which is very pertinent.

>>134918660
Oh so now playing games is wasting your life? What about watching anime is that also wasting your life? People have hobbies anon. His was gaming with his friends. Get over it.
>>134918612
It's very different because he's clearly an aberration in the new world. The game has ceased to be like the game he knew. Basically, it's just a medieval setting with the MMO theme being used as a plot device to make up for the protagonist's inadequacies. It's brilliant because he's both a weakling and an all powerful god-like creature at the same time.
>>134918739
Great men do not have hobbies. Great men's work is their hobby. These are the only humans we need to read about.

Shallow and false.
Great men enjoy pastimes the world over.
You think George Washington didn't have hobbies? He regularly played cards and billiards with his friends.
>>134918736
Well to begin with my lit professor probably wouldnt care about an anime or light novel, secondly regardless of how a story starts it moves on. Good literature is anything that moves you and makes you feel something for those written in its pages. This accomplishes that. Who cares if it has mmos in it or if its about a fantasy world? Poor taste is hating a story before reading it simply because its a genre you dont partake in.
>>134918819
>George Washington

There's no point justifying these things to people who are clearly biased toward the whole medium. It only sounds sad if the listener is somebody who's not willing to look past the superficial description, and thus it is pointless to have the conversation in the first place.
>>134918975

But they actually fit the definition of patrician far better than us. We read Japanese pulp novels sponsored by corporations. We're just sycophants to corporate greed. Shouldn't we at least acknowledge our taste is bad? I admit my taste is shit. They're never particularly plot relevant. They fulfill their role as the miniboss squad.
Miniboss squads are always fan favorites.
The anime didn't diminish their role so much as you ignored it because you have no taste.
>>134919657
It's more that the novels don't put all that much attention to nazarick and its inhabitants. There are many chapters dedicated to world building and such. But yes, pleiades are mostly servants that keep to themselves, they aren't the center of attention as much as the strongest NPCs.
>>134919742

Where are you guys pushing these definitions of what constitute a great work from? It should be obvious by now that liking something or whatever is a subjective matter. The well regarded works of literature have this position not because they're widely liked or whatever. Usually they were innovative and influenced other works. For example, you might not like Shakespeare, but his works influenced a lot of people, so you simply can't ignore his existence if you wish to talk about literature. Is it so hard to understand?
>>134919767
Dude I don't even think the bugmaid existed in the anime. The only one who played a big part was that chick who went with Ainz when he went out as Momon and she fought a skeleton dragon.

Bugmaid doesn't get her scenes until the next volume.
And you clearly weren't paying attention as you missed the slime maid.
A miniboss squad is a team of characters who show up in a story at multiple points. They're usually not as important as the "boss" characters, but focus on character appeal and comedy. It's a common trope.

"Tolstoy was instrumental in bringing a new kind of consciousness to the novel. His narrative structure is noted for its "god-like" ability to hover over and within events, but also in the way it swiftly and seamlessly portrayed a particular character's point of view. His use of visual detail is often cinematic in its scope, using the literary equivalents of panning, wide shots and close-ups, to give dramatic interest to battles and ballrooms alike. These devices, while not exclusive to Tolstoy, are part of the new style of the novel that arose in the mid-19th century and of which Tolstoy proved himself a master."

I don't see what that influences anymore though. Shakespeare yes, he is all over the place--many english words exist only because of him--and you see tons of works which ape Romeo and Juliette, or Hamlet or are even adaptions of it. But you don't see much like Anna Karenina and War and Peace. Mostly I'd say Tolstoy's influence is dying out with modern literature turning to a more low class quality. Are there even novels which ape Tolstoy's style anymore? Usually his novels are popularly derided for being too long--"It's as long as War and Peace," etc.
>>134920172
Nope

I'm not a litfag, but even if people ignore Tolstoi nowadays, can't one say he had his own share of influence at least for sometime and for some specific places (like Russia)? If he had 0 influence, I doubt people would even talk about him. Simply being an enjoyable read isn't enough to be remembered.

would play
>>134930386
Please tell me more, I am extremely interested as I would like to run an overlord game.
>>134930439
>>134930427
I'm not entirely sure how well it would actually play, but it's pretty simple.
Racial levels like Ainz's skeletal lich levels are like classes, in that they grant some weaknesses/resistances while also giving class benefits like Caster Levels and Base Attack Bonus, and hit die.
Health values shown on the Character Sheet are the actual value divided by 10. Maximum health is 100d10 (or 50d12 50d8) or 1000.
The reason Ainz has over 100 Mana is due to having an exceptionally high amount of points in his casting stat, and having full Caster Levels due to racial classes.
>>134930603
Kind of like an MMO, you start with 10 in every stat. You can choose to reduce a starting stat to 8 to boost another to 12.
You gain 1 point to allocate every 2 levels, so 50 additional points at level 100. Stats have a hard cap of 40.
There's the usual STR, DEX, CON, INT, WIS, CHA setup, as well. Ainz has no CON stat, so his Charisma starts at 12 instead.
>>134930702
>>134930603
I wish there was an mmo like yggdrasil
>>134930702
>>134930603
Since your Mana Pool is Caster Level + Casting Stat modifier, Ainz has 115 mana.
Mana costs increase exponentially after the first couple levels, to allow weaker casters to actually cast spells. To earn a new spell tier, you need enough mana to cast it 3 times without running out of mana. You also need (10 + the spell's tier) in your casting stat to learn it.
New World Tier 0: 1
Tier 1: 1 Tier 2: 2
Tier 3: 3 Tier 4: 4
Tier 5: 6 Tier 6: 9
Tier 7: 12 Tier 8: 16
Tier 9: 20 Tier 10: 24
Costs can be reduced by class passives, etc.
Ainz probably has halved Necromancy and/or Conjuration spell costs due to his specialization.
Basically, you can cast 10th Tier magic by level 70 if you're a pure caster. Fluder is a scrub and should have been able to cast 6th tier by level 25 if he didn't dip into Cleric.

Short.
>>134936897
Probably the same as they are in Tolkien-style fantasy/ D&D. Short, hairy and living in mountains with gold, jewels and all kinds of other valuables. They'll probably have a lot of very impressive magic weapons and armour (from a New World perspective, not from the perspective of the residents of Nazerick with all their OP gear and stuff though) and they'll be very wary of outsiders and not let non-dorfs into their towns. End of the day Ainz will probably try to find some way to recruit some(or all) of them to make shit for him.

Ainz: Well, at least you know it's rude...
A: Frankly speaking, I would like you to knock me up! (though it's embarrassing...)
Ainz: That's hardly something you should be frank about, Albedo...
A: Can't Super-tier magic knock people up?
Ainz: Knocking people up...
A: Isn't being knocked up a form of Super-tier magic?
Ainz: (What the hell does she think Super-tier magic is...)

Is that an unpopular opinion? It had exactly what I had wanted since I started reading Overlord: conquest. And not just quick subjugation of some race we know nothing about; we get a pretty great view of the lizardmen perspective, seeing what they view as powerful/what their normal is.
Sure, it's a bit boring watching them go through the tribes and whatnot, but it was all buildup for their complete and utter submission. We get to see them struggle valiantly against the weakest undead imaginable, knowing all the while their hard work is meaningless. Then Ainz-sama waltzes right up to them and freezes their fucking lake, leaving them dumbfounded. To me, it was exhilarating. Also, Shallchair.
Even if you didn't like the volume that much, it's probably going to rank highly simply by being better than quite a few of them. You'd have a hard time convincing me the Momon Art Online or Adventures of Sebas and Climb volumes were better.
>one of the 13 heroes was a dorf player
I wonder how this affects volume 10
>Is that an unpopular opinion?
I remember it being universally hated as the worst volume to the point some people even suggesd skipping 80% of it back when we had at least 3-5 threads a day, the main complaints being people just don't care about the lizards and its slow pacing, I disliked most of it do to how long the all lizard parts dragged on but I did really like the ending when I first read it. rereading now so maybe it's not as bad as I remember it.
>>134938982
This comment by xenofab00 sums my thoughts about vol4:
Still sad for the braves who fell. Honestly, for the first time I really fell uneasy being on Ainz's side.
In the beginning of Overlord, I had the opposite concern: I didn't want him to be just another good (and empty) guy. I wanted him to be an anti-hero as his race suggest.
But this, was really a bit much for me. The Lizard men were fantastic, I understand perfectly Cocytus feelings. They were weak, but fantastic, heroic, brave and all united for their people, more than willing to die if necessary. Considering their little strength, they did a splendid job and really all they could ever do, in the best possible way considering the circumstances.
No actually, it was BECAUSE they were weak and still had that fantastic unbreakable spirit that I can only admire them. And Ainz is just stepping on them like it's nothing, wake up bastard. Thanksfully Cocytus was here, even if only one or two are resurrected. After all those losses, I hope Ainz isn't expected hearthful loyalty from them, it will just be ruling by fear.
>>134936897

Ainz was just enraged over the fact that anyone would enter the tomb him and his friend made to loot it, he is extremely defensive when it comes to anything from the past, I doubt he anticipated just how greatly it would affect him mentally to see low tier thieves attempting to ransack his guild's home.
>>134939787
Also the faggot couldnt back down since he had to keep his act in front of the NPCs
>>134939878
yeah, that too. Ainz has been pretty heavily conditioned into his current way of thinking by trying to meet the npcs grand expectations of him
>>134939194
Ainz is more or less feared and loved as a God.
They've more or less entered a golden age, which has granted them unprecedented security and prosperity.
>Cocytus has went out of his way to subjugate their enemies like the ancient gods of war.
>Ainz lent cocytus an item that spawns food infinitely, until they can get their fish farms up.
>Lizardmen were shocked how the fish had no bones or internal organs inside them when they cut them open. Aura told them that they were created through Ainz's magic.
>The ones that went to Nazarick to train returned with stories of a magical realm that spanned across several worlds.
>Lizardman village is protected by undead guards 24/7

I doubt she's pure about love because of Shalltear the Hedonist and Albedo the cockhungry succubus roaming around next to her, but in any case nobody seems to see the essential problem of dicks not having any bones and therefore Ainz not having a dickbone.
Aura was also hopeful that Ainz would fuck her senseless when she grew up because iirc everyone somehow knows Ainz likes the titties.

It's mor of how much they once influenced. Shakespeare and Canterbury Tales are on a whole different level from other literature because they're almost by defnition going to influence everything that comes after it in English, but there are plenty of other writers that influenced things either more temporarily or more narrowly. A bad example, but Tolkien basically invented elves as they exist today. Before that they were like bigger gnomes or goblins.

Karl the Great was apparently extremely upset that he couldn't read which is partially why he kept funding libraries. Also he was really fond of Gisela iirc (his imouto). And Amadru or whatever her name was (bastard daughter).Charlie was a really cool guy
>>134945411
Not really. Tactics can do a LOT in a battle and the Lizardmen did suffer a lot of casualities. It wasn't autolose tier, it was at the point where they wouldn't win in a straight fight. My point was that as long as you fucked their organization enough times and took out all the heals and support (hence the rear cavalry charge) you'd have at least a decent chance of winning - unlike, again, the equivalent of Pickett's Charge but without even trying to soften the enemy up with artillery first.
>>134938690
>>134938982
It was universally hated because Sky would take multiple weeks to translate a chapter back them (much smaller team), and so it took us a ridiculous amount of time to get through the Lizards and every week when we checked the update it was more fucking lizards. It's all well and good when you re-read it in an hour, but it's painful as shit when you had to spend months waiting on more lizards.

No. Liches are literally always villians. They're not Chaotic Good, Lawful Neutral, Chaotic Neutral, or Neutral Good, which is what antivillians tend to be. Liches are Evil (usually Neutral iirc but might be one of the other two).
They might be nice to people under their rule but that's because they view their subjects as 'one of us'. Only stupid villians slaughter their subjects for top lel. Actually passably intelligent ones try to keep them safe unless there's a good reason to kill them off.

I found this "what if" scenario in a forum, it's a bout Clementime being revived.
While Momon is walking a street in the afternoon, while people greet him during their passing a sudden shot of blood lust hits Momon's back. While he looked back he saw an alley and from there he saw a cloaked figure, its face cannot be seen and it looks like it was inviting him to follow the cloaked figure further in the alley. Momon then decided to follow the cloaked figure in the alley, deeper and deeper inside, the cloaked figure kept its distance from Momon. When Momon reached the end of the alley there was an open area with no people in site, from there the cloaked figure stands in the open. Curious Momon asked a question to the cloaked figure and from there a familiar voice was heard.
??? - "It's been a long time since we have last faced each other. Kekeke....
It was a voice of a woman with a trace of arrogance in her voice, Momon think hard trying to remember the voice that he had heard.
??? - "Oh boo! Don't tell me you have forgotten about me?
Momon: You.... Could you be -
Before Momon could finish his sentence, the cloaked female had recealed her face.
??? - "Tada~! It's me! Do you remember me? You did hugged me to death back then~.
Momon - "Clementine was it?"
Clementine - "Yep it me! Goodness, you sure took your sweet time~!"
Momon wasn't suprised at all cause he knew revival magic was possible in this world.
Momon -" So you're alive huh? Did someone revived you? Are you here for revenge?"
Clementine - "Hold on, could you please not barrage me with so much questions?"
>>134948078
Momon - "....."
Clementine - " As for your first question, yes I'm alive andd not an undead, second is a secret~ and for your last question, it's a no. I have intention of fighting someone as powerful as you, so I'm here to prupose a business deal with you~!"
Momon - "And that is?"
Clementine - "Protect me from my pursuers and I will give you informations that might help you, it also includes info of various underground groups."
Momon - "Interesting pruposal but how would I know that you are not going to lie or back stab me?"
Clementine - "Well~ I don't have anything left here, no home, no family to return to. I might as well sell my soul to the devil or pretty to you instead."
Momon was thinking which move to pick. In the end, he thought of a much more entertaining idea. Momon reach for his dimensional item storage and through an item to Clementine and it was...
Clementine - "A ring? Oh my~! You sly bastard~ you want to become your bride, is that it? Kyaa~!"
Momon - "No.... That ring will use a high grade illusion magic on yourself when you wear it."
Clementine - "Don't tell me this is the help that I will get from you... kinda stingy aren't ya?"
Momon - "Clementine!"
Clementine was startled by Momon's sudden shout.
Momon - " From now on, you are to join my adventuring team so that I could keep an eye on you. During your time with me, I will evaluate you and then I will decide on what to do to you."
Cliffhanger. :p

By that logic, all fantasy universes are MMOs.
A generous friend of mine translated a portion of the upcoming novel's preview:
The person who was standing there is someone with a head that bears a close resemblance to a bird of prey. Wings sprout from his back, and he wears a flashy suit of sparkling golden armor.
"Oh, what a surprise. This is the first time that I've met you here."
"Same here! It seems that we entered at precisely the same time."
"Such things happen. But, now that I think about it, isn't it strange that I haven't run into anyone so far? The timing of when you leave the company gets quite piled up, doesn't it?"
The friend, Peroronchiino walks over.
As Peroronchiino walks, something that looks like golden dust falls off of his suit of armor and disappears. It's a cool effect, as if the afterglow is scattered around.
"I never get used to that effect. What's the matter? Does it have something to do with the data crystal that the monster from the newly discovered area dropped?"
"Nope."
Peroronchiino's face is not moving. Unfortunately, faces don't move to match voices in the Yggdrasil game.
"It's an effect of cutting colors in. I'm part gold."
Momonga received an impact near his feet, sweeping him off his feet.
>>134948521
Is this part of Vol.10 or something else.
>>134948577
Might be the BD4 side story. The BD4 and BD6 side story are apparently about how the Original Nine took over Nazarick in the first place.
Also, I just realised that Ainz has only personally given the ring of AOG to 3 people. Mare, Albedo, and then PA (however reluctantly). It's probably a sign of how much he values PA.
>>134948630
He also gave one to Naberal in the 4th drama CD, also you're right about PA even if Ainz is embarresed of him he realizes his value.
>>134948521
That's a pretty bad translation.
It's basically just Momonga and Peroronchino logging in at same time and Momonga admiring the visual effects on his armor.
Momonga wonders if the effect is from one of the new areas.
Peroronchino says that he used a gold item to get the effect.
Momonga was upset about this because they sort of agreed that they weren't supposed to go p2win on the game.

So she hears about sex, talks about sex, but is waiting for you to:
>imagine Lupus on her hands and knees, a nervous look on her face as she sees the giant dick about to impale her. Despite the fear that it's too big for her, her wolf instincts to be bred keep her frozen in place as her vagina secretes copious amounts of lubrication so she can accept the cock. Her eyes will go wide and her glistening lips will flare outwards to engulf the head of the penis pushing into her. A soft cry will escape her lips as it sinks further into her depths, her body demanding she accept all of it. Once its fully inside her, stretching her, she'll feel the powerful thrusting in and out, sending shockwaves of pleasure through her. When she feels the knot start to swell there will be a moment of panic when she tries to escape. At that time you must grab her hips and hold your dick as deep as possible inside her, leaning forward to nip at her neck with your teeth to force her instincts and obedience until your knot has swollen to full size. At that point you will be locked inside her and it will ensure she can do nothing but accept your seed. The tight seal from her being stretched and filled will make sure that not a single drop escapes from her super heated vagina, and you will see her reach down and rub her lower belly with one hand as she's amazed at the pleasure she's experiencing by having her womb filled with thick hot semen, her vagina going into spasms of pleasure as it milks you dry.
