The anime was volumes 1-3.
Volume 1 was the intro, mainly composed of Momonga going 'shit shit Ygg's shutting down my lyfe is over', then going 'lol wat NPCs reel?' followed by 'holy shit all the other fucks in NW are scrubs'
Volume 2 was 'lets try to be legit and gather info / lets actually fucking rekt a minor arc villian (which is all clem was)'
Volume 3 was 'shit nigga Shalltear is MC'd' and was the end of the beginning, introduced PA and Nigredo and dropping a hint about Rubedo's actual power level, then showing off how strong Ainz really is by giving him an opponent.
The anime adapted what amounts to LotR up to Frodo getting stabbed by Ringwraiths and manages to leave out a good half of the exposition - of course it feels like shit.

In the anime it feels sort of shit but remmeber that summoning a level 90 NPC costs XP in Ygg, while the staff can apparently summon a Primal Fire Elemental as a daily spell. We don't know what else it can do besides the autoattack system and PFE, but Ainz is afraid that the guild will detonate if he somehow gets the staff destroyed (which is what happened back in Ygg) and doesn't use it, he doesn't need endgame buffs when he's facing down midgame or 'played for three weekends' scrubs.

No but the Discworld series has a set of books about an extremely under-powered wizard named Rincewind who is extremely lucky. Every book with Rincewind as the protagonist is amazing and hillarious. I think if you like Overlord's humor you would enjoy it as well.
