Only someone with a selfish outlook on reality would look at it in your way, though. Death means the permanent loss of consciousness for the victim. You're only thinking about it in the sense of, "Well, there's still a person virtually identical to them somewhere out there, so it's not like it would be impossible for me to see them again." And think about all the people who can't hop between dimensions. They just have to accept that death.

See that's the thing though. Multi-universe doesn't have a finite number of universes. It doesn't matter if the characters in the media are only aware of a finite number of them, there are by definition an endless amount and not even the power of AUTHOR can change that.

Multi-universe doesn't exist unless the author adds it to the story. Until then, there is only the universe you see and nothing else... thus giving weight to everything within.

See that's the thing though, there's an infinite number of universes that are all slightly different from each other. There's also an infinite number of universes that are identical to each other.
Literally anything is possible in a multi-universe story, and thus literally nothing has any weight whatsoever.
