I have never seen an anime that butchered its source material so thoroughly as bokurano.

The most obvious entry-level one would probably be the first FMA series. Mixed bag there, had a nice tie-in with the movie, but Brotherhood was loads better.
As for Bokurano I haven't watched it. That OP though.
