Because the connections aren't intentional. Yes, you can draw a stupid parallel between Shinji and Moses, but what you described is basically the reluctant hero archetype. That archetype is fucking everywhere and with that I could draw a connection to a million different works. It's supposed to be a personal introspection for shinji only. You're just there as a witness. Things aren't ideal , NGE isn't Fairy tale. They ran out of funding near the end so people call the remake movies "money grabs". When in all Honesty, the studio realized what they had made was spreading like crazy after the initial release. watch the first 24 or 26, it fucking matters not then watch death and rebirth and END of Evangelion. It's no be all end all, but it's a whole hell of a lot better than claiming it biblical references have no solid foothold.

I have seen the entire series and know that most of the important plot elements were poorly explained. Around episode 20 was when they started throwing around a lot of terms that I didn't understand because they didn't explain them very well prior to that.
