While I'm not the biggest fan of Episode 8, how is it "bad," because you disagree with it? Battler's change was handled quite well and it was built up from at least Episode 3, if not earlier. And the story wasn't even about him denying magic in the end, that was just a small part of the bigger message. Dude barely has a presence in Chiru, and that's because his role in the story was basically finished by Episode 5.
