Why did Toei come up with such a massively contrived yet totally irrelevant plot point?

I don't get the backlash towards this show.

I think, for what it is, Super is a great anime.
Why?

Because this is literally just extra story. I mean, think about it, we literally know how the story of the Dragon Balls ends. We saw that at the end of Z/the manga. We didn't even need to get all of this extra lore and characters, but we did, and we need to be thankful. This is just filling a time gap.

The series is clearly focusing more on the personal lives and comedy that goes in within the main cast. It isn't trying to be Z: The Sequel, like GT was, this is just a fun comedy where the stakes aren't as high. Just be thankful we have more DB.

It was pacing the movie plot slower with comedic padding or getting more shu shu shu, na na na episodes. At least they're not powering up for an entire month, which is more that can be said for Z.
