Is it true that [HorribleSubs]'s 1080p is the same as 720?
To begin with, why would anyone watch 1080p anime?

You have eyeballs, figure it out yourself.1080p typically just looks like it's less artifacted and running at a higher bitrate. Which I find worth it, but to each their own.

You're are better off watching 720p + madvr
When HorribleSubs upscales they use master apps with more RAM in their graphic cards that your pc has. Their upscales are better than natural 1080p as a result (except on VLC). If your graphic cards were better than HorribleSubs with more RAM and memory then you could watch 480p at 1080p with an even higher bitrate resolution.

No, it's an upscale.
Not the same, since your computer would have done the upscale differently if you hit "fullscreen" on a 720p, but probably not better than what your computer would have done.
So you're basically waiting for a bigger and slower download which is probably not better than what you'd get with 720p + fullscreen.
(Unless your video player totally sucks ass at upscaling, in which case the 1080p might be worth it.)

VLC is an app that don't use correctly the pixels of the monitor. The upscale use the graphic card to make more pixels but VLC can take only 2/3 or 1/3 of the pixels (this is complicated stuff). Then you get 480p (more or less a hundred p) with your upscale video that should be at 1080p.
VLC is not a good video app. The best video app is media player with the codec apps installed.

At least for CR and Daisuki the 1080 will only be the same as the 720 if the show was animated at 720. If it was animated at a higher resolution resolution the 1080 will have more detail.

Yes, but scaled up. If you use KCP and have a vidya-tier graphics card (not even a good one necessarily), there will be no difference besides download time.

Difference isn't noticeable on my system, and I don't have some outstanding amount of RAM. Neither does HS for that matter.
Also, 480p is a downscale, meaning that upscaling it even back to 780 will cause some fuzziness rather than clear lines.

Also, anyone telling you that non-hs rips were ever released within 2 days of airing is lying, that never happened! It's just too difficult and time consuming to lazily QC and add memes to HS reenco- I mean create high quality fansubs so quickly!
Look there's really only one question that matters: does it look better to you? If so, download it. If not, don't.
