Yeah, it's weird as fuck. It comes out of nowhere and then the story goes back to where it was. iirc, there's even a TL note saying to skip the futa girl side story.
I like both the anime and manga because of the contrast. The manga makes it seem like a historical account, with keikaku swordmanship and whatnot. Then, you watch the anime and see all that thinking process happen in real time. Mixing the experience of both is glorious.
