With a little guidance it might've turned out another way.
As Sayaka is indeed not very smart and easily affected by people and/or events around her, I believe she can be steered in pretty much any direction by her friends - including going full-berserk and living as a magical girl for herself and fighting for her friends instead of abstract "world" while actually believing in it and enjoying it. But no one was there to show that way to her.
Kyouko's "only those who have no other options should be fighting" is just bullshit that leads to nowhere.
