>Early and mid 2000's anime
>>
2004-2007 is the best period of anime ever though.
>>
>>134588391
still far better than any garbage made before 2000, especially 60s/70s/80s anime.

I've been interested in getting into early 2000s anime. After all, it was the golden age of weeaboo culture, and I would like to watch some classic style fansubs from that period. I try to see the different periods in anime culture, and the early 2000s was a very important time, at least in western anime culture.
>>
>>134589279
2004-2007 was the boom of anime culture in the west, because having a decent internet connection was more common and we had shows like Death Note, Haruhi S1, Code Geass, Gundam 00, Macross Frontier,Higurashi and even Elfen Lied.
Best times to be in /a/ too.
>>
What about them
>>
>>134589483
I mean more common than before*
>>
2004-2007 was the best time to be an anime fan.
>>
>>134589279

Anyone remember the overly elaborate karaoke from that period.

I remember watching the fansub of Full Metal Alchemist. It had animated karoke in Japanese script, romaji and english.
>>
>>134589635
I miss that shit.
>>
>>134589635
Not only that, but I remember when subtitles used to have a different color for every chacter (often matching their hair or clothes) and attacks used some flashy font that left you blind.
Moder fansubs have gotten better in that regard, but they don't have that kind of magic left.
>>
>>134589483
Yeah, I've been mostly ignoring the seasonal filler and haven't even watched many of the classics from this time, but I think it would be great nostalgia to hear the old anime openings from a time before I really watched anime.
And the subtitles is another part of it, I want to reexperience the time of hardsubs where every other word was in Japanese and the plot was spoiled in the translator notes.

I also have the impression that the anime culture was more connected to the older anime back then. People were talking about Bubblegum Crisis, Ranma, and the ties overall reached further back in time. Or.. Madoka is almost as old as Ranma was in 2000, and Madoka is still talked about, so maybe I'm wrong here.
>>
The 2000s were terrible for most things. Just a crass, overwrought zeitgeist.
>>
>>134589635
Yeah, it was awful. Pretty sure I watched an episode of Macross Frontier where you couldn't turn it off and it completely ruined everything.
>>
>>134589864

When I got into anime I was a newfag shitter, I just wanted to talk about Haruhi, Full Metal Alchemist and Last Exile. The older crowd at the time were the ones who discussed Ranma, Inuyasha, Utena and so on.

The older anime fans at that time used to call us the Haruhi generation, as that was the most prominent anime of the period.
>>
Good years t b h
>>
>>134590145
But that's normal, when you're new to anime you only want to watch and discuss the new shit, is when you want to get more invested in the medium were you start looking for older series.
Unless you count nostalgia, as when you start watching anime by seeing the shows you used to see as a kid like Dragon Ball or Saint Seiya if you're south american.
>>
>>134588680
2006 is an underrated year. Everybody says 2007 was the best year for anime but I personally prefer 2006.
>>
>>134590145
>Haruhi, Full Metal Alchemist and Last Exile
But those were perfectly fine and interesting shows, anon.
>>
>>134590145
I didn't really start to get into anime until 2010, when I watched my first subbed anime (except 25 episodes of FMA in 2009), I also watced the three first seasons of Digimon and 22 episodes of Kimba the white lion the year or so before that. But I also had a period in 2004 or so that I was a wannabe weeaboo, where I pretended to be obsessed with japan and anime to fit in. And back then, I remember being really into Ranma. Sadly I never got too into it, so I can't remember what was really popular, but I think Love Hina was a big deal, and Full Moon was also popular. What I remember was mostly what I knew there was manga for, because my experience with the anime community was really limited.

I have left out about a hundred bad comedies and flavorless HS shows, but there is plenty of good shit that I have just spoonfed to you from 2000-2005. There is plenty of good anime there

I don't know if the best, but the nostalgia I have for that period is overwhelming.

I had a friend at school you used to recommend me anime. At his suggestion I watched Full Moon Wo Sagashite, Fruits Basket, Kare Kano, and probably a bunch more that I've forgotten. They were all Shoujo series, though I didn't realise that at the time.

Turns out that some time after school he became a transsexual. I was not surprised at all.

You forgot Agent Aika and Najica Blitz Tactics.

Kare Kano is pretty amazing, I'm currently watching it and it's so nice and funny and comfy, I love it. I think I may be more familiar with girls anime from that time, because of the people I knew in real life that liked anime, I think all of them were girls.
fullmoon.foren-max.de, I think the website was, but I can't remember.
I also remember the Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne manga being really popular.

If I one day watch Chobits, I think I'll try to find old subs of it, perhaps I'll have to stream even, but it's an anime I imagine being popular back then.
>>
>>134591291
>Chobits
I remember watching that and most of clamp works because a girl I had a crush in HS liked them.
>>
shuu a shit, just sayin'
>>
>>134591378
I just saw it's only 26 episodes, I imagined it being like 37 or something. Seems that it's something I can actually get through in a reasonable time. It's also one of the anime that has existed in my awareness for the longest time, numerous times considering starting watching it. I think I'll finally try to do it soon, because it's something I should do.

Will also try to watch Fruits Basket, the OP is nostalgic and I had almost completely forgotten that it existed.
>>
Another great show from the early 2000s is Noir.

The advent of digital animation replacing traditional cel animation sure wasn't pretty (though I barely noticed it at the time) and for that reason stuff from 10 years ago hasn't aged well in regards to visuals, often less so than stuff from 20 years ago.

But I have a soft spot for that era nevertheless. Ah, to be young and innocent again.

We got too good at this anime thing. We have strict rules for posting on /a/, we have reliable (even if shit) subs for 90% of seasonal anime, we have centralized places with everything.

I miss those days but I am too spoiled to go back.

Tsubasa, Road to 2002. These past days I've been listening to the opening over and over.

The fall season seems pretty acceptable, at least. If reputation in the anime community is to go by. To be honest I haven't watched much recent anime, though. At least if you go by today's standards, you can probably find some worse years in the past, or even in the present? (I haven't gotten the impression that there are anything great in 2015.)

>especially 60s/70s/80s anime.
Much of the pre-90s anime suffers from the same problems most western pre-80s stuff suffers from - cultural dissonance from our own culture. Even the Japanese culture has shifted somewhat from then.

>Much of the pre-90s anime suffers from the same problems most western pre-80s stuff suffers from - cultural dissonance from our own culture

So people had no knowledge of their own culture before an arbitrary date?

>>134588699
The 80's and 90's were when most of the great stuff was produced.

>cultural dissonance
I've never felt that way with pre-90's stuff, but I can just image the kind of shallow-minded person who does.

Then again, I often feel a certain level of disgust for post-2010 culture, so probably the dissonance just comes from the opposite direction for me.

Wouldn't the problem with a lot of older anime be that it was made for children? Almost all anime from the 70s was made exclusively for children, I can imagine that being a big problem for people who want to enjoy it today. For none of the old anime I've watched it has felt like it was the culture that made it suffer. Though, I have only watched a handful of anime from before 1990. But in general the media has sped up, at least in the west, everything happens much faster than it used to, and that may be the case for anime too.
>>
>>134593819
Galaxy Express 999 and Cutey Honey weren't exactly made for children.
