In your continent you have to walk 20 miles through dirt roads and fields of manure just to visit a friends house, and on top of that you don't have the money to afford soap or waste any water so you can't wash your floors more than once a year at most.
But in America we don't have to do that. We can afford to build our houses out of lots of different things, so we can generally have a tiled entryway for people to come in through, which usually connects to a kitchen with more tiling or hardwood flooring. If a guest is staying for a while then of course they'd take their shoes off, but if it's just a brief visit there's no need to bother.
