But anime can not be scary. It just can not.

>>
>>134521826
why is japanese horror so formulaic and filled with cliches when their culture has a huge tradition of freaky weird monsters to draw on
>>
I'm fairly certain there was a Ring manga.

On a /co/ related note, the webcomic is adorable as fuck

Because the vast majority of youkai are either hilarious or largely nonthreatening.

There's a handful, but good psychological horror is vastly underused in anime.
>>
>>134521945

Say what you want about Junji Ito, but it's hard to call his stuff formulaic.

There's a manga. I think I own it, for some reason.
>>

Which is easy since any media with Koreans qualifiers as horror.
>>
>>134522120
>It's a novel trilogy
I know dipshit, but there was a shitton of noncanon spinoffs including a fucking manga

Shit was even translated

Sadako is best girl.
All of that stuff with the video tape was a misunderstanding, she was just taping herself practicing talking to people!

And the the anime cleared all of it up!

Subete ga F managed to feel creepy enough for me.
>>
>>134521826
there should be fluid animation and the jagged animation or something, for the ring anime to work. It can only be done on OVAs

WHAT SAUCEE?

Well the formula an cliches did came from their culture and tradition actually. The ring and the grudge ghosts are based on Okiku and Oiwa, ghosts from kabuki and folk tales.

People will laugh at me, but I watched the original version a long time ago and the ring and the grudge ripp off episodes scared the crap out of my ten year old self. Also the eyeball-mouth bitch episode, fuck that one.

The rabbit and mirror ones were always ridiculous though.
>>
>>134527350
Rewatch the abridged version
>>
Why is the psychological horror genre so neglected in anime?
>>
>>134521826
Yea but it's really hard to make anime actually scary without having jumpscares.

Not him, but I know nhentai has a ghost tag. I think Pururin did as well, but since Pururin is kill I suppose that doesn't matter much.

Moomin had better horror than most modern anime. I know a lot of people say they were terrified by the Groke, but personally I was more scared by stuff like Moomin transforming into that weird monkey creature, or by the girl who turned invisible, or all those goddamn Hattifatteners surging across the landscape like some sort of milky white river of the vaguely anthropomorphic ghosts of ants crossed with electric eels. It was all just really messed up when you think back on it.
>>
>>134528252
This is cute but Ringu-chan would jsut bite your face off
>>

>Pururin is kill
Forever mad. I'd favorited a bunch of stuff on that site, and I liked its tagging system because there were so many unique tags. Now that it's gone there's a bunch of h-manga I'll probably never find again unless I take the time to browse through many thousands of results from general searches on other sites.

A ghost falls in love with a boy. Unable to confess, she is gifted by a deus ex machina with the boy's television. Never minding the strange model number, she immediately crawls through the screen, and is overjoyed to find out that he has a crush on her as well.
