It started off good, but I felt it should have concluded with the Pharaohs arc. The author could have easily wrapped up the one or two lose ends remaining, and finished it there, but instead it kinda drags.
Thank god the Bokurano director's career is now ruined.

It's not that the anime was bad, the source material just isn't good until the minus arc.
To be fair though, Buddha, and lots of other manga, are nigh impossible to adapt well.

Every Appleseed adaptation ever has sucked.
I guess Ghost in the Shell/GotS:SAC made up for it, though.

The quality drops a lot by the end because the manga was discontinued so they had to invent their own thing to close the series.

The '90s OVA? It stripped out all the dense background just to have a spider tank rampage -- and thereby set the pattern for all the iterations since (disclaimer -- never saw any of Appleseed XIII, but given that it sank w/o a trace worse than GitS:Arise, I can draw conclusions)
