The structure and pacing and sense of crescendo in the Tower of Retribution arc is MASTERFUL
it is absolutely pearless storytelling.
From monsters materialising in the torture chamber, to skullknight appearing and having the mysterior chase with the egg apostle, to guts having to take on the torturers, ozgus...
Miura just kept on upping the ante in that arc.
It was beautiful. miraculous.
It was once in a generation storytelling, to keep on building that climax and urgency and sense of "holy shit" so flawlessly.
And as someone else said the historical perspective with the church, treatment of pagans, the look at refugee camps.
The Golden Age accomplished something slightly different, it had impressive characterisation. But the Tower of retribution arc was the best 4 consecutive volumes in the story.
Every one hit it out the park.

The way the second eclipse manifested itself was so haunting and ominous. Like you slowly start to see what skull knight was ranting on about earlier on.
I also enjoyed how despite the destruction and death, it ends on a hopeful note.
