Cardcaptors in plural? I don't know, maybe because they wanted Shaoran to be the protagonist so they could appeal to the male audience (this bit is true for the Nelvana dub at least), so instead of leaving it at Sakura they made the title more ambiguous. That's just a guess of mine though.
