Yes, they could fail to destroy the Slates. I still think this is most likely, it keeps the potential for season 3 and side stories, as well as feeling more satisfying. Either Munakata, Nagare, or something else entirely, could win. I really don't think they'll want to destroy them, and I doubt they'd want Green to win outright, like they did when stealing the Slates. Either Munakata will win, or something unpredictable will occur.
