I showed my friend K-ON since all they have seen is SAO and AoT (Yes I know) and we're on season 2 so far and they love it

K-ON had a nice balance of not-too-detailed hair yet not plastic anime hair so they could make the characters move around a lot. Hyouka hair is more lifelike but it would spoil the zany comedy moments of K-ON if they had to draw it the same way.

They've seen anime like SnK, Death Note, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood.
People always say 'DON'T SHOW CUTE JAPANESY STUFF TO PEOPLE WHO DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT ANIME' but honestly I don't think I would have even gotten into anime if it weren't K-On!
It's actually a pretty decent gateway anime. At the very least it worked a lot better for me than, say, Attack on Titan would have if you somehow managed travel back in time to when I was 15 and show it to me.

K-On! was the second anime I watched. Started with Death Note. Being on 4chan for years gave me prior exposure to moe anime girls so I guess I'm biased but I think K-On! is very accessible to new people as long as they go into it with an open mind. It's the GOAT CGDCT anime and it has little fan service so it won't scare people away,

When someone is just beginning to appreciate any kind of art, they start out needing plot to keep their attention, and to guide their expectations for the way the story will go. Smart anime is no different in this respect, ones journey into K-on is as much about your own development as the show itself. This is seen because as a viewer becomes more mature, the centrality of plot as a driver fades. They move on to character focused pieces. This is where season one of K-on sits on this path, It's just the natural evolution that people go through. Maybe you're still just starting your journey down this path. That's ok! You still have some growing up to do, but that's not some kind of character flaw, or anything. It's an opportunity. Embrace it. Because of course, even the mature audience for SoL shows has a further stage to reach, when they move on to a level where they appreciate pure aesthetic art. Just scenes and shots without any need for character at all anymore, because every frame has so much going on from an artistic viewpoint. Few people ever reach those heights but season 2 is the forefront of this self-psychological journey.

I hate anything with a story after watching K-ON. Be it a plot drive shit or a book, it's just normie shit, I hate it. I'm just glad all anime these days is trying to like K-ON, hopefully within a few years nobody will make story driven anime anymore.
