It didn't need an anime.
The original art-style was better, and the soft color scheme that the game was more pleasant to the eyes.
Story-wise, the source had interesting shit, but it was nothing that other anime haven't done better.
Could've used another game though.
The anime guys apparently hated Skies of Arcadia, because they killed off Vyse and the orange haired girl who were cameo characters from that game.
Why was Faldio played as possibly Alicia's love interest? There was nothing from the game that even remotely hinted at that relationship.

They made a war anime with almost no actual fighting in it, and what little fighting was there was really badly directed.
Instead they injected artificial Z-tier romcom bullshit into the plot, and turned Welkin from a capable young officer to a dickless collection of harem lead cliches without a harem.
Those blaming the source material: fuck you. You could watch the cutscenes of VC and that would make a ten times better anime than this shit.

For whatever reason they though it would be a good idea to alter parts of the story and characters for the anime.
Alicia is now a tsundere in a love triangle, they removed the scene with the dying soldier in the cabin, characters were killed off, etc..
At least the VC3 OVAs were good.

I don't even remember any non CP characters having talking lines in the show.
Only thing I liked in VC anime was a tiny part in a filler episode near the middle of the show, where they showed western style cloak-and-dagger assassins, but the studio had animated them as if they were ninjas, so they ran in that goofy bent posture, made 15 foot leaps and so on. It was a neat mishmash of styles that lasted about thirty seconds.
