The current companions in general dont feel relevant. I dont feel the kind of affection I had for Judeau, Casca, Pippin and Griffithpre-insanity of course.
If the current characters all died, Eclipse style, I think the only one I would really care about is Shierke, because of the father - daughter relationship she has with Guts.

Farnese and Serpico, especially Farnese, are much more fleshed out characters than Pippen or Judeau. More than Shierke as well for that matter, though she's a kid probably doesn't have much to flesh out.
Kind of the same with Isidro, he's probably just too young to have really all that much of a backstory, I think the idea with him is that his backstory is playing out, like his time with Guts is his formative years. He's a bit dense, but he's had some lessons thrown his way that he's kind of picked up on.

Judeau and Pippin were Guts' friends, their deaths were gutwrenching to watch because of how hard it hit the other characters involved. Farnese and Serpeco feel like "acquaintance" tier at most, I doubt it would hit hard if they died. It would suck, sure, but I dunno.

It's a little unfair to compare him to the other party memebers, considering they all have way stronger gear/abilities than him.
In a few years he will be pretty powerful, especially if he keeps training with guts.
