I thought they loved Beatrix. Not as much as Iris, but certainly more than the both Katia and Lise combined. She was sweeping all the popularity polls a while ago too. They still hate Theo though, probably even more with his VA confirming the whole Master connection, and a supposedly vastly superior MC staring in the prequel story.

It was gutted and mishandled. Originally it was supposed to have a branching story too, but that was axed. You can see the vestigial remains of this whenever they give you a choice that doesn't ever develop into anything.

He was never that popular. A lot of people thought he was a paranoid wimp. Even before the ending, shit like burning Katia's only remaining picture of her father had them pretty upset at him. Also, he get's shot down by Iris a couple of times making him look even more pathetic. The way he handled Lise was the final straw for many of them.
This is made even worse now because they're contrasting him against the prequel's hero who's pretty much the anti-Theodor.

It was a picture of one of the last moments shared between her and her father. It was one of her most valued keepsakes, something that she always took with her. He burns it because it's a liability. She can't be connected to a traitor. Katia didn't really agree, and Theo took her silence and discomfort as a yes. Still, it was the only remaining thing Katia had to remind her of her dead dad. The stasi had pretty much scrubbed everything else concerning him and his history, so with the picture gone, it'd be almost like he'd never existed.
Theodor is literally a paranoid neurotic edgemaster and gets progressively worse as the LNs go on, volume by volume. He was never popular but he's down right hated now.
He actually makes Hibiki look good in comparison.
