Patlabor looks pretty neat, but if I understood correctly the ovas and tv series are entirely their own canon. Is there any remarkable difference or can I just watch whatever I want?
Patlabor thread I guess
>>134054429
Watch in production order.
this is now an izumi thread post izumi
>>134054819
Got it!
Being attracted to Izumi makes you a little gay, but not being attracted to Izumi makes you a flaming faggot
>>134054429
There are two continuities
>Movie
Early Days (OVA1) -> Movie 1 -> Movie 2 -> Movie 3 (aka WXIII)
>TV
Mobile Police Patlabor - > The New Files (OVA 2)
There are no significant differences between the two, just the plot and what happens in them. The characters are more or less the same, and the interact with each others in more or less the exact same way.
>>134054751
Eh, usually I'd say this but this is bad advice for Patlabor.
>>134055349
>bad advice
Why exactly?
I don't know why but Patlabor always reminds me of Adachi's manga.
>>134054429
Thanks for such thread anon, long time no see Patlabor.
Hail Alphonse AV 98 Ingram!
>>134055349
Eh tonally they are distinct
Early days OVA, then TV, then movies because I said so.
>>134055349
>The characters are more or less the same
There are slight but important differences though, like Noa'slove for Patlabors at the end of the OVA continuity.
I just want to watch the one from the KMFDM video
>>134057431
Patlabor movie 1 it is
>>134057004
Noa gets the same development between the two, but it's handled differently and in a different timeframe.
Just watched the first episode, I love the sol-feeling it has.
>>134055264
Movie 1 is best Patlabor.
>>134059124
OVA1 and TV are basically SoL comedy with mecha sprinkled in.
>>134059296
Sounds pretty good.
>>134059530
Given that the writing is exceptionally sharp, scenarios creative and cast extremely likeable, it is.
>>134059201
If it isn't, it's bloody close.
>>134055349
Actually there's 3 continuities
They are, and in the chronological order
1. The Mangascanlated? NEVER EVER
2. First OVA > Movie 3 > First Movie > Movie 2 > Next generation (The live action series.)
3. TV series > Second OVA
>>134061266
TNG draws on both OVA1 and TV's timeline. It's easiest to think of it as a soft reboot sitting isolated from anything anime or manga.
>>134054429
Watch OVA1 first and then either watch the first movie or watch the TV show.
>>134061356
Wait, wasn't TNG the light novel's continuation?
>>134061801
There is a TNG LN, which the series is based on. The series itself uses elements from both continuities.
>>134061266
would you recommend watching them in chronological order?
>>134062277
Production order would be confusing, since movie 1 came out about 13 episodes into TV and movie 2 after OVA 2. Pick one continuity at a time.
Birdy The Mighty/Patlabor crossover never.
>>134062413
Birdy would not survive Noa's wrath.
>>134062733
Noa would not survive Birdy's glee.
>>134062827
Noa has her partner and totally not husbando to back her up, though. Birdy has a 'buddy' that she doesn't really get along with in either manga, and perhaps more importantly isn't a physically separate entity.
>>134062355
alright, thanks
>>134063056
You're underestimating just how strong Birdy is.
>>134063846
You're also overestimating her enthusiasm for hurting innocent civilians and law enforcement. She doesn't want a nother person to share with.
>>134063928
All she has to do is wreck the labor. Not much Noa can do after that.
>>134063955
Are we forgetting that her most impressive labor kill wasn't actually performed with a labor?
>>134064023
Birdy doesn't break as easily, and can move before Noa does anything.
>>134064146
I think you aren't giving enough weight to just how angry she would be after Alphonse got smashed up by an apparently malicious Birdy.
More to the point, why the hell would they ever be fighting in the first place?
I watched the 7 episode OVA1 and then the first 2 movies and enjoyed it a ton. I'm not sure if I want to go in for the long haul of the 47 episode long tv series.
>>134065953
TV and OVA2 are basically a more polished OVA1, you'll love it.
>>134055264
>>134055014
>>134054978
you JUST know
>>134066112
What the FUCK are you talking about?
>>134064023
that was the best fucking scene
man, I want Osshi to direct more movies
They are so satisfying
>>134066234
If he does, he needs to take them less seriously. Whenever his head gets too far up his own ass, it ends poorly.
>>134066301
I kinda see where you're getting at, but you wont find a style like his in anime anywhere else, or maybe I just need to watch more
Patlabor 2 felt more preachier than 1, same as with GITS 2: Innocence. But then we have things more grounded like Jinro
