I was there for both Madoka and KLK. KLK was on the same level, if not, highly close to Madoka's hype.
CG wasn't really big at all, hardly anyone even talked about it. It wasn't until CG:R2 that it got big because Koda and friends kept spamming it on top of how ridiculous the show had become. But R2 spam lasted for like a year.

It sounds fun at first, but then the threads move way too fast for any meaningful discussion to happen, not to mention at least a half dozen threads in the catalog at all times. /a/ is way too big now.
Everybody starts using reaction images from the show on every board. The audience grows exponentially.
Then the show ends and the fanbase goes the way of /vg/. Sometimes it gets to the point you can't even admit you ever liked the show or see a reaction image from the show without cringing.
