I want to buy it but I just feel spending almost $400 on dvds is a waste of money. Especially since I'll still download the sub version when it comes out, just for greater clarity on the dialogue.

I disagree. Have you ever seen Digimon that were released in the last few years or X Antibody Digimon from 2003? She doesn't look that detailed. But, she does look more detailed. I love Digimon. I don't think I can hate anything from it. I'm not a critical person anyways and I enjoy monster of the week shows. It helps me get my mind of real life. I spent too much time online so I knew what plotholes and flaws to expect. I loved the background music, it has some of the best in the series. Okiwara or whatever is name had a really good ending. I really liked Ken when he had his redemption arc too. The Cthulhu episode was great I really enjoyed the Golden Digimental movie. It has some of my favourite Digimon, like Magnamon and Rapidmon. Also the scene where Ken kicked a puppy was fucking hilarious.
The only season I didn't enjoy was the last season of fusion because I waited every week for plot and nothing happened. But, if I knew that going in I would have enjoyed it.

I like 02 too, and I think tamers is supremely overrated.
Is tamers one of the best seasons "objectively"? Sure, probably. But it was also fucking a clusterfuck of ideas/settings and people only tend to remember to good parts (D-Reaper, furshit etc). Guilmon was obnoxious in every way, and still is even after all these years and rewatches. Takato's character development is fucking terrible and generic. Generic character development is pretty common in digimon, but they give him too much credit in tamers, same with rika/henry.
02 was fun to me because I also liked a lot of the designs, magnamon was so fucking cool when I was younger. Now I recognize him as the gary stu that he is, but who cares. It was also really cool seeing adventure characters and the swap back and forth between digital/real world and the balancing of that. 02's biggest flaw was it's shit fucking main characters, which is very true and it's plot that is overly hated. Oh well.

Meikumon is just a cat. It doesn't have unnecessary Piccolo lines on its limbs, or an elaborate chest emblem, or a horn with uneven lines on it.
Seriously, try to draw his horn from memory, just his horn. You'd have to be Rain Man to get it exactly right. It's detail for the sake of detail.
In terms of total number of pencil strokes to draw, Meikumon isn't far enough above the norm to complain about.

Ironically, Shakkoumon is the only one of the three that properly exemplifies Jogress, and I think he would've been much better received if the first two weren't designed like fusions.
He's Armadimon's canon Perfect form, and could eventually evolve that way without Angemon (if Iori was alive), so really the only thing Angemon contributes is a stat boost to qualify for that form.
Whereas V-mon and Wormmon's canon Perfect forms are Paildramon and DinoBeemon, and it's just a coincidence that they both look like parts of XV-mon and Stingmon stuck together.
In some of the video games, if a Jogress pair doesn't have a hard-coded result but doesn't fail, you get a regular evolution. It's not true fusion, it's cannibalism.
