Eh, I wasn't feeling it. I usually love episodes like that, but honestly I wasn't really impressed. Maybe I was just distracted by how unusually large everyone's foreheads was the entire episode.
The episode where they rescue Towa is still my favorite.

I agree that that's the episode it would need to beat out. The violin duet, the rush on Towa's prison, Scarlet busting out against Dyspear, so that's a tall order.
I suppose how much 39 matters depends partly on how invested you are in the story, and in Haruka in particular; beyond it's a finale-esque "all is lost" moment, it's essentially about Haruka finally growing out of Kanata being the lynchpin of her dream plus his triumphant return/rebirth/backburner'ing. But there's a wealth of detail, some amazing action and this feel that they threw everything and the kitchen sink (and then some)at you.
Do you think it was an expectation thing that it didn't do anything much for you?

It's a series that's been running for 11 years at 50 episodes a year with a new "generation" pretty much every time, and isn't meant to have any important continuity between generations. You can really pick it up anywhere, heck even mid-season if you want, though it's fun to get to know characters and storylines, obviously.

Nozomi _is_ hope. If anyone is going to stand up first when it's time to stand up, it'll be Nozomi.
Nagisa is the true singular hero of FW, no matter what anyone thinks, which by virtue of being the oldest season makes her the ultimate 目上. If anyone is going to punch/haki the villain in the face so hard that their brain implodes, it'll be Nagisa.
Mana is more of a reality warper, trumping anyone else's importance with her own. If anyone is going to leave little kids sitting in a theatre with their Miracle Lights unused thinking to themselves "wtf just happened" because she just came back to life with no explanation, it'll be Mana.
