No he wasnt. He was resolute and determined but he didnt have any of his old bluster. Hell, he led the group to the North Crater openly voicing his doubts that they would suceed and the liklihood was that they would all die.
If you refer to the character material and intention for Cloud's character in AC, what they wanted you to see was a Cloud who had had 2 years of being able to dwell on the events of his life and which caused him to develop a self-loathing sense of survivor's guilt. He was always susceptible to this as we saw from his childhood where he was happy to accept the blame for Tifa's injury even though he had nothing to do with it.
The complete material mentions that he was dealing ok with this but the arrival of the Geostigma fucked with him even more, especially when Densyl caught it. For Cloud, it was another person he cared for dying without him able to do anything about it. When he got infected himself he essentially gave up.
AC did a terrible job at conveying this. The Complete edition cleared some of it up but it still was no where near perfect.
Personally I really like Cloud as a character. For a FF protag he is really quite complex. He is kind of similar to Terra in how unsure of himself he is. Characters like Cloud and Terra make refreshing changes from the ultra-positive, happy go lucky protags that the FF series has a fuckload of.

What they tried to do in advent children was to expand upon the universe of an unfinished and rushed game, but not without leaving the same goddamn plot holes as and ignoring the blatant stupidity of most of the character's supposed character development. They just added a lot of shit, and tried covering it all in fancy fights, emo costumes and some horribly raped soundtrack pandering to emos and metalcore idiots.
As far as animation goes, hair does not look like yarn 0/10. The voice actors were good, however, and is perhaps the only saving point of this movie.

It's not only Hope who get such a treatment. All main cast get some development in part of the story then was left as their are till the end. At the finish Fang get some additional development but that's all.
On the one hand i really liked Hope as character on the other he was the youngest from whole cast. It would be very unnatural to make in into leader. Especially since he didn't have anyone to save beside himself.

The bit in Palumpolum, from Hope trying to kill him to the end, is actually pretty decent.He basically ends up admitting to Hope that the entire "Hero" persona he puts on is a facade so he doesn't have to face the enormous guilt he's burdened with due to how many innocent people have been killed as a direct result of his actions or encouragement. By playing the dumb hero all the time it means he can pretend everything is all dandy and doesn't have to own up to his mistakes, because if he did the shame would probably make him kill himself.
Then in FF13's fashion that development is dropped as soon as the arc is over so he goes from being a dude who yells HERO'S COMIN' to avoid PTSD to a dude who yells HERO'S COMIN' at face value.

Yup. And it's sad, because if they had gotten the character development right, it might have justified the first half's gameplay issues (because the story up to Pulse is pretty damn good). But the only real payoff you get is Oerba (which is a legit payoff, but not nearly enough). It's so obvious how piecemeal the game was put together.
I'm not going to mention the sequels. Everything the first game tried to build gets flushed down the drain (including, most despairingly for me as a graphic designer, the phenomenal UI design) but people like it because less muh hallways and character switching/whatever reason people like LR.

Nobuo Uematsu is great. I love FF7s music, but Advent Children's music is just shit.
This is One Winged Angel orchestral version. It closely follows the original from the game. Listen to the staccato march like quality of the brass and the dynamic range of the strings. When the piece builds to the chorus you can tell just how tightly coordinated the orchestra is with the way the flutes build to the cymbal crash and then immediately back off to build again. It's a very powerful song.

Right away the stacatto march of the original song is muddied, like they're going "blah blah blah blah." Comparably this song sounds lazy and sloppy. Then an electric guitar riffs its way into the song, which clashes with the military and religious motifs of the song and makes it sound like a cheap Power Rangers score. They even fucked the choir up with a sloppy echo effect.

I liked XIII-2 better because it was significantly better gameplay-wise and had a number of QoL changes over XIII. It did what most remakes and sequels should do: Address the problems of the previous entry and fix them, with maybe some extra shit on top of that to keep things interesting.
LR was honestly pretty shit in writing. The whole thing makes no sense most of the timeexcept for most of what happened to Snow. That at least makes SOME sense.
The outfit designs were stupid, but the way they worked mechanically was pretty workable and interesting. The gameplay itself was pretty decent (although had horrible replay quality) and I wouldn't be opposed to seeing more games like it.
The major problem was that it was so fucking obviously Toriyama just masturbating all over the game's design that it was painful to play in sections.Chocobodin honestly saved the game for me. I was getting ready to drop it at that point.

How so? It was essentially press auto-battle repeatedly, use a summon every so often to heal up the part and deal some extra damage, win, continue down the corridor, change your paradigm decks every so often, repeat.
Every now and then you might have to handle casting spells on your own because your healer wants to heal poison instead of increasing HP or something crazy like that but you could really play the game with one hand almost.
It's a good thing Type-0 was nothing like 13 and hopefully 15 will be a million times better.
