It's the purest SOL I've ever seen.
It was considered good because it was about a subject matter that the vast majority of anime fans are interested in: How anime is made. The characters are very endearing and we root for them during the hard times and share their relief when they get out of it okay.
Plus I think that many found it refreshing to see a SoL that wasn't set in a highschool for a change. Not that those types of shows are bad, but it's fun to see a different setting now and then.

This. As much as i like a comfy highschool SoL, i think that most people here on /a/ are already out of school and it's nice seeing a SoL with adult characters.
I just finished it like, moments ago. Fantastic anime. To put it in the gayest way possible, it reminded me of how thankful I am for the people who made my favourite show.
Not really a slice of life though, it had pretty clear conflicts and distinct dramatic arcs.

I don't know why there has been so much autism over this on /a/ recently, but the inclusion of drama doesn't seem like it would stop a show from being SoL. Even K-ON had its drama moments.

You can't call the genre for any of these "slice of life." For example, NNB and Aria are iyashikei. Nichijou and K-on are comedies, and Shirobako is a dramedy. Those are their genres, a "genre" is about a work's tone and its creative goals. Slice of life is a narrative technique but not a genre in that it does not necessarily say anything about the tone of the work or its goals. All of these shows have different degrees of slice of life, but it's used as one tool in their belt to achieve the goals of the show's genre.

Y'know, I watched and enjoyed this show when it aired, but these fucking threads are going to end up making me hate this show. It's not the best show ever, and it's not slice of life you dumb niggers. There's nothing "amazing" about the show, it's just a fairly average light drama, and the only thing that seperates it from other shows is that it's about anime production.
The easiest way to ruin a show is to overhype or misrepresent it, and it makes me wonder how many of the fucking retards who praise this show so much are doing so just because they found a gimmick they haven't seen before.

Overhype doesn't ruin shows, and Shirobako isn't overhyped. It's not like KLK wich is ultra-popular among everyone or works like SAO or the big three.

Hidamari Sketch, I'd also call slice of life. They're all (with a couple of exceptions) art students, but there's much more focus on the various characters chatting about and doing random stuff, you could hardly call it about art. GA Geijutsuka Art Design Class, by contrast, gets enough into the details of art and its creation that I'd call that about art, rather than slice of life.
