You see, the director of the Dark Signer arc and all subsequent arcs of 5D's was one Shin Yoshida.
Shin Yoshida is also the writer of Zexal.
Aki's design is arguably a reference to Kallen from Code Geass, an anime created by Sunrise.
Konami sold Zexal's timeslot to Sunrise, who used it for Aikatsu; resulting in Zexal II.
Sunrise is the enemy of Shin Yoshida. Yoshida somehow foresaw Sunrise fucking up his anime, thus took out his anger on Aki.

Not that Anon nor am I a Shun fag, but in the case of Shun's loss to Sora, nobody counts it because it was not fully on-screen. If that duel DID count then that means that every off-screen duel ever counts, which nobody counts off-screen duels.
However Shun vs Crow is a fully on-screen duel so if Shun loses, it will count as a proper loss. I don't want Shun to lose to Crow because Crow is a 5Ds character. If Shun lost to Crow then it would undeniably count as an official defeat for Shun, but I would still want him to lose on-screen to an ARC-V character to be truly satisfied, namely Yuya or Yugo or Yuri. Even fucking Sergey would be preferable than having Shun lose to Crow.

I know Shun is a gary stu. Him being one is an objective fact. However having an 5Ds character who isn't Jack beat him would be pointless. Shun losing to Yuya, Yugo or Yuri would be more satisfying.
If Shun getting BTFO by Sora resulted in broken ribs, just imagine how hard Shun would get BTFO by Yuri, and would be so fun to watch. Shun dueling Yuya or Yugo would be more plot relevant than Crow dueling Yuya or Yugo, and THAT is an undeniable fact. To be fair, Dennis was just a flat-out inferior Sora in terms of the masquerade, the reveal, and in terms of duel skill. Sora never "killed and replaced" Dennis screetime: Sora is taking back the screen time from Dennis which was originally his.
The only thing Dennis has over Shun is the thing with Ruri, in which the Heartland flashback was better than the actual duel. The Shun vs Dennis rematch itself (IGNORING THE FLASHBACKS) was just a shit version of the first Sora vs Shun duel. My opinion is obviously biased, but I don't think that Dennis is just an inferior Sora.
I'd love to say that he's underutilised, but the fact is that Dennis just isn't as important of a character as Sora is. Sora's role is more about his relationship with Yuuya and Yuzu when Dennis was around more to just move the plot around. With him the masquade and the reveal etc were never meant to be as big of a deal. And I'm fine with that since it'd be boring to just get a repeat of what happened with Sora. He also gives a different glimpse to the Academia stuff during his short-lived spy moments and might or might not be relevant when it comes to Yuuri.
Also since I enjoy reading way too deep into children's card game cartoons I kinda like how Sora and Dennis contrast each other with their roles and reactions regarding the Heartland invasion and dueling with Kurosaki and handling Fusion etc.And I just think that Dennis is cuter.

I could see that being the case, considering fusion summoning was the one of the biggest special summoning methods of his series, especially with the new Buster Blader support coming out.

What the Dark Magicians bit need is a recruiter card of some sort that adds spells or monsters or both.
Judai got his Masked HERO support as a Structure Deck not that long ago, and he got Blazeman and Shadow Mist that both add Polymerization and Mask Change, respectively, from the deck to the hand.
Yusei got his Synchron support as a Structure Deck as well, and he got Jet Synchron which lets him search a Junk Synchron from the deck when sent to the graveyard, while he also has access to Tuning and RotA, which both allow for adding Synchrons and warrior monsters from the deck to the hand.
Yuma will probably get his own Structure Deck some time in the future for Gagaga's, probably a New Xyz here and there and he already has Gagaga Sister whom let's him search Gagaga Spells like nobodies business.
Yugi needs something like the previously mentioned monsters or spells.
Let's you add a monster or let's you add a Spell.

If Dennis' first duel with Shun wasn't interrupted, Shun would have won with Revolution Falcon battling Shadow Maker. Shun was handicapped by starting with 1000 LP, so he basically beat Dennis with 3100 LP.
By contrast, Sora and Shun's first duel was NOT handicapped in any way, and it was back-and-forth, with both sides using action cards equally. Shun went down to 400 LP (out of the starting 4000) before making a comeback with Revolution Falcon...because Sora misplayed with Chimera's effect.
If the Shun vs Dennis rematch wasn't an Action Duel, Shun would have OTK'd Dennis with Revolution Falcon. Even with Action Cards, Shun didn't need them but Dennis needed two to not get OTK'd and still lost.
Again by contrast, Sora won his rematch with Shun. It was mostly off-screen and while it doesn't count as much as an on-screen duel, its still better than Dennis basically losing twice in a row. The further addition is that its implied neither side used Action Cards (then again, nobody in the Battle Royale did aside from Yuya duels) so that means Sora won without Action Cards.
The fact that Dennis even uses Ancient Gear cards in his deck shows that while he is well-connected to Yuri and much better at being a spy (e.g. getting close to Ruri, then later Yuzu), Sora is a stronger duelist than Dennis but sucks at maintaining his cover as well as he did since both Sora and Dennis serve two completely different roles (Sora being a soldier, Dennis being a spy) for Academia.

Why do they like him so much exactly?
I mean, I don't particularly dislike him nor see much of a reason for why people would. But at the same time I don't really see much of anything to like either.
The first thing that comes to my mind is that Yugo appears to be one of the characters with the absolute least attachment to other characters and the events of other characters in all of Arc-V. And his motivation for what he does doesn't appear to be all that endearing either.
I mean, for starters. His connection to Rin appear to be the weakest out of all the Yuya/Yuzu counterparts. And unlike even characters like Crow and Shinji he doesn't appear to have much of any friends or character relations beyond even that.
Even with all that has happened his strongest character relation actually shown in the show appears to be with Yuzu herself. What with Yuzu being just about the only character that he has interacted with. And they haven't even interacted together all that much.
So all things considered Yugo comes across as surprisingly irrelevant to pretty much all other characters.
And then there is his motivation too. Rin is kidnapped, but unlike before when he was aimlessly driving around off-screen through dimensions with the help of Clear Wing looking for her. He has his eyes completely set on the Friendship Cup instead. Why search for Rin when you can duel in the Friendship Cup instead?
Apparently Yugo and Rin looked up to Jack and wanted to be like him. But unlike Crow and Shinji he appears to be largely unconcerned, uninvolved, or even unaware of any rebellions or struggles against the tops.

For the amount of screentime he has had Yugo is surprisingly insignificant. As well as surprisingly unconcerned with what one would expect to be important to him. As he continues to go through each episode as some kind of adorable blockhead kind of. As if acting coy about it would just disregard how Yugo doesn't really concern anything nor anyone aside from Rin who has pretty much not even been in the show.
Yugo appeared out of nowhere, lost his mind, killed Yuto, and disappeared again. But none of the concerned characters even know who he is beyond "Synchro using Yuya".
He got stuck in Synchro together with Yuzu, but half the time they aren't even interacting and we haven't gotten much of them to begin with.
Yuya synched with Yugo during Yugo's duel, but they just mirrored eachother and never really interacted. And beyond finding the experience weird it hasn't really affected them.
It's pretty bad when characters like 227 always feels more involved with both the characters and the plot(s) than Yugo. And it's Yugo of all characters that they like?

Why is the dueling choreography so bad in Arc-V? What I mean by this is, characters don't just have random cards in their hands/decks that serve to push their own strategy, instead they have super specific cards that counter an opponent's play. For instance in the latest episode: Crow summons a level 2 Synchro monster that can't be destroyed twice per turn, he equips it with an equip card, making it have 1600 attack, and then uses its effect to deal damage to Shun. Shun counters this by summoning a monster with 1700 attack that gets special summoned when he takes damage. He summons another copy of the same monster, attacks Crow's monster with both, Crow's BW monster survives, then Shun plays a Quick-Play Spell card so that he can get a third attack in. This is just one example, but this series is filled to the brim with such duels. It's really fucking awful.

What was with that, Fubuki won against Fujiwara and then he goes back in like nothing and no one notices it except for him. I suppose that was some power of the True Darkness but still, no ever remember or talks about it, so it felt like an asspull. Fubuki really was a badass kind of like an adult Judai but he seems to be the weakest of the main trio in academia.

Sure, but I'd say it really started to get ridiculous midway 5D's. I remember Effect Veiler being a card that pissed me off immensely. So we have the Crash Town arc, there's this bad guy that FTKs motherfuckers like it's nobody's business by doing effect damage with one monster by tributing his traps. But oh wait, Yusei has a perfect counter for that! Not only was Effect Veiler a card he had never used before that, but he also just so happened to have it in his opening hand.

When you think about it, if Darkness assimilated all of humanity bar Judai, that means everytime he/Trueman dueled someone, they started playing some mind tricks with them in order to utterly break them.
Say, if Yugi was indeed assimilated, I'd assume Trueman tricked him into making him believe back in Battle City he won his duel against Jonouchi, which resulted in him dying or something like that.
And Fubuki technically didn't win, he forced a draw.
