It's the start of the summer vacation of Kanbaru's 3rd year
She has to clean her own room after pissing off Araragi by acting entitled to having him do it
She finds the left devil arm despite the fact it should have been eaten by Shinobu
When she picks it up, she's surprised to hear Ougi-kun behind her and flings the arm
Ougi-kun, who is not in uniform, but wearing black, has apparently come to help her clean
He finds the devil arm stuck in a fusuma (sliding panel) and its clutching a letter from inside the fusuma
The letter has a creepy poem which they decide is a riddle from Tooe related to the devil parts and they try to solve it
It's pretty strongly implied Ougi's male form is Kanbaru's version
He even says "I don't know anything. You're the one that knows, Suruga-senpai" a couple of times
He seems to represent guilt driving her to feel a responsibility regarding the devil parts
Ougi leaves the room when Araragi calls about trouble Hanekawa is in
While he's out, Numachi comes in, but Kanbaru recognizes it's actually her mother (or rather its presumably the illusion of her from Koyomi Reverse)
Tooe refers to the letter as a love letter intended for Suruga's father
She warns about how the devil parts can multiply by feeding
But she's firm in saying that Suruga doesn't need to gather the parts and no one expects her to—if she does so it ought to be of her own will
Tooe goes before Ougi-kun comes back (she says she might be annihilated, in the matter-antimatter sense) but not before dropping a hint for the riddle
Kanbaru has understood the solution to the riddle and explains to Ougi-kun
They form a map by putting together the wood "bones" of the fusuma
She tells Ougi-kun she's going to follow the map next day
It ends with her saying they found the devil part the riddle led to, but she's going to work toward collecting more

The point was that she has to find happiness for herself, and there is really nothing Araragi can do to save her. Which is why her following arcs do not involve Araragi anymore.
And the mystery was mostly about getting Hanekawa more wary of Ougi for going directly for the "worst theory". The mother completely sealed the room, so it's possible that there were no insects, but the smell would still leak very strongly (but maybe not to the streets), and child Sodachi simply blocked herself from thinking about all the hints, including the sickening smell while probably actively avoiding the consequences when possible as if she knew.

I don't think so, or at least not by much. At least she was the perfect complement to Kanbaru's indecisiveness in Hana by being so self-assured and talking like she was hot shit. That's my biggest complaint about Itamura's directing in general. He basically uses these close-up angles and pauses as filler when he doesn't know what else to show, and even when they don't seem appropriate. The lighting, color, and set pieces have all been really good this season, though.
