>>133352982
Is it JUST me or did many of the 90´s and late 80s shows had a sci-fantasy setting or a more "created" or "fictional" world so to speak.
Nowadays it's all about high school students and shit, of course, not all of it but the fantasy setting is mostly present in hentai or fanscervice harems, why is this?
I guess for the same reason there was a time when Anime was all about super heroes and when it was all about poor orphan kids living in europe
Wanting to fuck Aisha clan clan is normal right?

Lina pretty much formed the basis for my appreciation of smaller breasts.
>>133359541
>not all of it but the fantasy setting is mostly present in hentai or fanscervice harems, why is this?
Mostly because of the good old Japanese censorship laws. Sci-fi and Fantasy was quite prevalent in the old days as well.
>Can't show a human penis so we will attach one to a random monster.
Though I think that particular loophole is closed now it's still traditional and these days adult shows are at least in theory targeted at those of us who watched anime in the 90s. As such I think we can be pretty sure that in a few years time that market too will be dominated by harems & high schools as well. Hell, the transition has been going on already.
>>133358307
> The manga will never be completely translated.
> There will be no continuation of the manga.
> There will never be a GOOD sequel to the anime (they planned one, but the premise would make it bad).

I swear people don't know shit when it comes to good things.
>>133373062
Hey, at least there's plenty of high school life setting shows.
>>133373324
> Hey, at least there's plenty of high school life setting shows.
It might not be the deepest, the most beautifully-animated, or the most original series of movies, but the Urotsukidoji franchise is without a doubt one of the greatest, most amazing achievements of Japanese animation.
It's got practically every genre in it:
-romance
-action
-horror
-fantasy
-sci-fi
-road movie
-post-apocalyptic
-mythological epic
-family drama
-nazisploitation
-comedy
-slice of life
-tragedy
-cyberpunk
-battle shounen
-kaiju movie
-and of course pornography
and at no point does it feel incoherent or tacky. It's certainly got continuity issues but overall it's incredible to see how many sources and traditions it borrows from and how well it manages to blend them together, and to combine all those themes, tones and narrative approaches almost seamlessly, and to use all those sources of inspiration to come up with some of the most insane and fun shit of all time.
It's not just porn it's a fucking masterpiece, and entertainment of the highest caliber.
I'm disgusted by the fact that at least 80% of /a/ never even tried to watch it.
If you haven't watched at least the first series of OVAs you should head directly over here:
>>>/trash/

>>133373590
You're crazy. Without the pornography, there'd be nothing to push the limits and serve as a barometer for what's acceptable as fanservice in non-pornography. How to evade censorship, what you can get away with, tentacles...
Not to mention that nearly all great mangaka got their chops drawing smut or tutoring under a smut mangaka. Those boys can DRAW.
what's the single ugliest frame of animation you've seen to date, /a/?

>>133387605

TV series was definitely shot on 16mm.
But that never even got a remastered DVD. It may be tragic, but the original film stock may be lost to time.

Slayers - High Fantasy, nothing more nothing less

>>133387605
Almost all TV anime was 16mm. Cardcaptor Sakura was 35mm thanks to NHK shekels, which is why it looks so good on Bluray. I think it got an HD airing on the old MUSE analog system too.
>>133388610
>It may be tragic, but the original film stock may be lost to time.
The problem most of these shows were shot on film but edited on video. At the time it made sense, it was cheaper and easier than using an editing table and an optical printer and physically splicing film together, and you couldn't see any difference watching in SD on a CRT tv.
What this means that even if the film still exists, it's all out of order and missing fades and titles and any other effects, and basically has to be reedited for an HD version.
Also on an Outlaw Star rewatch
>>133389098
i thought i remembered sailor moon being really funny. aren't all 3 heavy comedy?
>>133391130
They are.
Slayers is the preeminent comedy fantasy series.
Sailor Moon is more silly monster of the week fare for little girls, but it does develop strong characters whose interactions are very fun when they're allowed to be just girls.
Ranma is great, but marathoning it can make the comedy feel a bit tedious. Especially if Akane ever starts to grate on you.
>>133391719
sailor moon is fucking power rangers
