I was watching an episode earier where Weevil was stock piling monsters on the field instead of just attacking and finishing the duel. Then Yugi used mirror force and Weevil's life points went to 0 even though Yugi had no monsters on the field.

It's pretty simple.
You can't attack opponent's LP directly. You can only attack once per turn. You don't need sacrifices.
There are still asspulls here and there, but the above three seem to be consistent.

The turn ended with Judai having no backrow or hand, just 3 monsters IIRC. On Yugi's following turn he would've had 5 cards in his and and an empty field. Those conditions are enough for Atem to win.
