Gil went "This stupid thing, doesn't it realize it literally can't use me, I won't be able to give it a body like that" so he becomes a black hole instead.

He has an incarnated body, he's not being maintained by shit, but the grail tried to use him as a body to incarnate into while reaching out after losing Shinji, but it couldn't use him like that since he's by some rights still a servant.
However nothing is maintaining him, not any grail is maintaining him. The grail could have been blown up dozens of ways and it would never poof him away, but since he happened to be close by and by some rights his body was alive because of it, the grail tried to use his body as a new "Shinji" to attempt to be birthed like it did in another route as well.
Reason Gil was taken over wasn't because he was sustained by anything. By all rights he was alive and did not need mana.
