It's a different dynamic to Barakamon. Handa is basically a victim of circumstances on both timeframes but in Handa-kun he's at least winning despite himself.
Miyoko-chan was nice and all but I would rather see more of Maita-chan and Juli-chan fighting it out for Handa.
