No no no, they're supposed to be the Romans. It takes place in the 4th century, during the height of the Roman Sassanid wars. Muhammad himself was born in the 6th century, there are no Muslims.
>>
>>124113578
>4th century
It has its own fictional era, which makes no reference to Common Era/Anno Domini. Its irrelevant, because in the novels and original manga/OVA series, the Lustinians are clear expies to Not-Muslim Arabs.

Maryam is Not-East Rome/Byzantines. They are not fighting Romans, they are fighting fucking Arabs/Moors/Berbers.
>>
>>124113647
I was under the impression Maryam was Armenia.
That aside, why do they have crosses on their shields? Not only crosses, but crosses very very similar to the Byzantine Cross?
>>
>>124113793
Its closer to Hungarian designs then Byzantine Orthodox crosses. Doesn't matter though, either way Tanaka's intention and thematic with the Lustinians is to depict them as very violent and oppressive religious zealots whose kingdom is in a very desolate prior to them becoming monotheists.

Now who does that remind you of?

The Arab conquest of Persia was successful because of military strategy and tactics in actual battles. Not at all like the Lustinian victory which had more to do with manipulating the internal politics of Persia.

>>
>>124114237
Who are Arabs, like the Lukmids who would eventually become part of the Rashidun Caliphate. What's your point?

>The Arab conquest of Persia
>was successful
It was successful because Persia and Byzantine had spent the better part of 70 years wasting three generations of manpower, resources, and money on each other between the Anatasian War and the final Lazic Wars.

They picked off two massively weakened nations. And Persia itself had gone through 13 pretenders and usurpers from the Grandees, 7 great clans, and the main Imperial family once Khosrau Parviz had died, being highly unstable and militarily vulnerable until Yadzgerd III came to power at the age of 8.

You know who kicked the shit out of the Arabs even with numerically inferior forces and less experience? Shapur II the Great.
>>
>>124114129
That map is actually of the wars in the 6th century, but either way, the Arabs invaded Persia from the South, not the West. And certainly not Greece, which is where the Romans, and the Lusitanians, invaded from.
>>
>>124114129
Arakawa's only good designs are old farts.
>>
>>124114438
The Arabian peninsula is Southwest of Iraq, not just "South" of Persia. The region of Baghdad is traditionally part of the Persian people's homeland, and part of the Pars province for thousands of years.

>Not Greece
>which where the Romans invaded from
Except Byzantine is in Anatolia, not Greece. And Byzantines identified as Romans culturally and ethnically, not as Greeks even if they were assimilated by them.

The Lustiniana is a Islam expy, the story does not have to fucking parallel a 1:1 of exact references to make it indicative of the fact they are the Arab Muslims of the story.

That too, but even that isn't the case in the the legend of arslan. Parallels between the Arabic invasion and the Pars-Lusitanian war are running quite thin.

Tanaka gave in and the prohibition is lifted
http://zakitakubu.com/2015/04/14/arslan-senki-anti-bl-anti-fujoshi-guideline-struck-down/
>Wright Staff Co. Ltd., a group of writers which includes Arslan Senki author Tanaka Yoshiki, revised its guidelines for derivative works on Monday, April 13th.
>Prior to Monday’s revisions, a specific clause in the group’s guidelines for derivative works (i.e., doujinshi and fanart) prohibited any expression of homosexuality. The guidelines received public backlash and were portrayed as being anti-BL and anti-fujoshi.
>They have now been revised so that “extreme sexual depictions” (heterosexual, homosexual, or otherwise) are prohibited, but not expressions of homosexuality.
>He also acknowledged that the guidelines are more so requests to fans than hard rules.

>it isn't the case of the legend of Arslan.
Why not? Its a blend of things, your saying Pars is supposed to be Sassanid Persia, even though the Sassanids never once called their nation or people as "Parsa" like the Achaemeneid Persians did. Arslan's father is a pretender, whose very highly intended to be an amalgamation of Mardanshah and Bahram Chobin, who usurps the throne from Kadveh, his older brother.

There's enough man.

The parallels are the Lustinanians invading from the West after taking much of Pars' client states and vassals and directly marching on the Pars' homeland, which coincidence, parallels what the Arab Muslims do in the real world.

>Shapur the Great
It was Shapur II, not Shapur I. Shapur I is Shapur II's great-grandfather. He even has the nickname of "one who pierces through shoulders" for how violently he settled and crushed Arab invasions into Persia in the middle of the 4th century.

>they aren't similar to Arab Muslims at all
So invading from the West, conquering all the nations and kingdoms allied or owned by the Pars Empire, and being extremely religious to the point of declaring a jihad on the Parsians in the novels isn't an expy for Arabs?

The map that was shown in the beginning is clearly of Turkey, where the Roman Sassanid wars were fought. Going back to what I said earlier though, Lusitania seems far more like an amalgam of Byzantine Rome and the early Caliphate. Their armor is extremely Roman, sports Roman symbols, and geographically, they're from Rome. However their philosophy of equality and total bloodlust for heathens is Muslim, and from what >>124113949 said, while geographically they're Roman, the actual landscape is Arabian.
Basically what >>124115077 said.
