Meh, Shingeki had its good moments and only gradually slowed down. I ended up dropping it when they were riding through the forest, but more in a 'forget to watch the next episode for months' way, less in a 'this is so stupid what the hell happened' way.

Ep9 is better than 11 in my book.
Granted, the latter was the ultimate "all hope is lost" point of the ride and Karin fight was just hard to watch (as intented to be) because you know the full extent of it.
But ep8 was just perfect.
Taking up the happy first 4/5 episodes, mix in it the nagging feeling of something wrong in 6/7, the reveal in 8 and making a big ball of it to break down the club founder/big sister was just too much.

That episode was absolutely perfect, it says something that it also had pic related happen but it managed to top that. Episode 8 was when we knew that things had gotten dark, but Episode 9 was when things just started tumbling down.
If only Sonoko After had been animated as an Episode 13 this show would've easily been a 10/10, as it stands now it's at least a 9 though.

The show as whole could've benefit a 13th episode, even without changing a single thing about it. Namely making 2 episodes out of ep12, which even with all the LN background does have an abrupt "and Yuuna punched everything into daijobu. END" feel.
I don't know if they would've gone with Sonoko after in the show though. That's probably a too big S2 - or "Magical Girls Crusade" if you prefer - pointer for an original franchise out of nowhere made by a no-name studio. Back then at least, it had enough success for considering it now.

I wouldn't say that the characters are shallow though, they aren't particularly deep but that's because they're mostly ordinary girls who have (or had) ordinary lives. I'll admit that Yuuna is a rather flat character (like Madoka before her) but the other characters have their own backstories and developments.
To me that scene was the culmination of what YuYuYu was ultimately about, namely the preciousness of their ordinary lives. We had already put two and two together about Itsuki, but this was the moment where Fuu was able to put it together. It's about Fuu realizing how precious Itsuki's life and dream were to her, and when Fuu realized that she had fucked it all up she simply broke.

I can't stand when a show treats the audience like a bunch of retards, and on top of the overblown acting, Onna needs to shout out "Can't you see you're doing the same thing he is?!" to Decim when the cop finishes his little "I need to see them carry the crime out all the way so I can judge them!" speech. It was incredibly ham fisted, and they bashed us over the head with it despite it being obvious.
On top of that, despite all of his characterization, the boy still goes full retard and stabs the pucks so we can see them shatter in slow-mo (what clever symbolism!) for the sake of giving us the bad episode end that acts as a wake up call to Decim.
The conclusion to that little arc was complete fucking trash, and the only way you'd like it is if you think anything that tries to be series is inherently good, regardless of execution.
