I thought I recognized your lines. That was a really awful thread with a couple of useful gems. There's nothing really to "get" about gesture drawing except that it's a quick sketch. If you're sitting down on a park bench and want to draw a girl running by with her dog, you get one chance at taking a mental snapshot and jotting down enough of that image so that you can flesh it out later even though the subject is long gone. That means putting down ink or graphite quickly whether it's lines, ovals, boxes, or a combination of shapes. Towards that end, it helps to practice drawing lines, 2D shapes, and 3D forms so that you can throw them down without hesitation.
