Where people for some reason got in trouble for not censoring animated porn enough, others got away with quite a lot when it came to soft-porn and idols, which means you have new studio's, and older ones, that keep trying out more creative work-arounds.
But it hasn't gotten ''easier'' or more relaxed in all aspects, since older studios that pushed the idol thing too much, did get lawsuits and so on and had to crash and burn because of it.
So thes days you have established companies that just stick what they do, some that try to stretch boundaries, and new ones that just go for it or play it safe.
A lot of these arbitrary lines also apply all over the entertainment industry, it's also true that a lot of these studios, especially when it comes to porn, still have Yakuza ties, sadly.
We don't really see them in the general public anymore, like they used to be, but now it's mostly behind the scenes.
You shouldn't be surprised to find out that a lot of these studios/porn companies that ''push it'' or try to break a new niche/market, are Yakuza funded.
