I and i think most other people that get mad over this kinda shit wouldn´t be mad if the author developed their story and characters in that direction and then it ends that way with a well written conclusion
But more often than not some ending seems to be set in stone that everyone would be happy with and then the author starts rushing and pulling shit out of his ass to make shit more "interesting", shitting on some characters completely in the process or making everyone act completely out of character for it, often somehow managing to ruin the entire series
