Why has there never been a HD or remastered version of the Daicon IV opening? It's one of the most iconic pieces of animation of all time. Did they lose the original materials and are unable to do it? Will we ever watch the intro in the quality it deserves?

>Did they lose the original materials and are unable to do it
Probably.

I know there have been individuals who have gone back and replaced the sound effects, but I think the sounds for the Daicon III video are too old and no longer available.
>>
They got pretty much no permission for anything in the video. They'll never properly distribute it.

I read that there are a few laserdisks of this in private hands, but the prices for them are enormous.
I don't expect one to be ripped before I die.

All this was created by a bunch of nerdy peeps who love animation and nerdy things.

Why don't you do something substantial?

I think it was filmed on 8mm, so around 720p is the best you could ever see it, even under ideal archival conditions, which I doubt happened.

Pic related is the exact demarcation point between ancient and modern anime for me.

No, it really is not. It's just a senseless fan animation.
>>

It is highly iconic though.

I have a question...

I love this animation, the music, all the themes...

But it has obviously aged really bad in terms of animation... was it revolutionary at the time?
>>
>>122752206
To a couple of nerds. But it is nowhere on the same level as actual masterpieces.
>>
>>122752570
It was for guys literally working out of their garage.
And the animation for Daicon 4 isn't aged. It's just a different style. Still extremely difficult and time consuming to do it all by hand.
>>
>>122749778
It was literally mastered on 8mm film, good luck getting anything "HD" out of that level of grain.
>>
>>122752570
Stop this inflationary use of ellipses on /a/.

As for the animation in question: No it wasn't revolutionary as such, but it perfectly described what anime was to otaku and it was made pretty well for a doujin.
>>
>>122752570
>was it revolutionary at the time?
>It has aged bad
Are you fucking insane? The animation is beautiful, even more so when you realize it was made by a group of amateurs in a sweatshop.

didn't know it was made by otaku, that explains quite a bit

Look at Anno's scenes like the dancing swords in the sky and tell me that's "aged animation."

>didn't know it was made by otaku
>>
>>122752570
What? It's aged amazingly. Yeah, it's not fucking Redline, but the animation is still better than the average anime today by miles
