How do you guys feel about absurdly high quality Bluray remasters of old shows? What interesting series have undergone this process?
>>
I hate it when they remove the grain . It takes something away from the show.

>How do you guys feel about absurdly high quality Bluray remasters of old shows?
What kind of stupid question is that?
>>
>>121763829
I prefer the grain even though I realize this is akin to an old main saying he prefers the scratching of vinyl.

It just seems unnecessary to force an older show to look new. It's not new, and people are okay with that.
>>
>>121763883
Some people aren't interested in them
>>
>>121764030
You phrased that badly.
Those "some people" of yours aren't interested in old shows. It's not the BD remasters that they don't care about. Those are just another aspect of shows they don't want to watch.
>>
>>121763829
It makes them watchable.
Sorry but upscaled 360p is just crap, what can I say.
>>
>>121764173
I still have some 240p encodes that will never get any remasters.
>>
>>121764073
Not that cut and dry. I am interested in old shows but not absurdly high quality versions of them, because I am a HDD space skimper
>>
>>121764204
I'm so sorry for them.
How do watch that stuff?
>>
>>121764242
There is subtle beauty in artifacting. It's like a comfy ham recipe passed down through generations of plebs.
>>
>>121764242
A small video frame (upscaled to 480p) within the huge blackness of my monitor.

Good taste.

>>121764459
Probably the only way to go with stuff like this.
>>
It made LoGH look like shit.

That's because they didn't just remaster some scenes, they entirely reanimated them. THAT is why it looked semi shit. The HD portions were honestly done fine and still looked 80s as fuck.

Why do this to yourself?
>>
I love them. Otherwise it is really hard to enjoy shows from my childhood because 240p is not acceptable anymore.
>>
>>121765511
Wow, so few series have gotten this treatment yet.
>>
>>121765511

Akage no Anne, Urusei Yatsura, Ranma, Touch, CCS all look fantastic.
>>
>>121763829
Arion was great.
>>
>>121763829
Feels good when episodes look good. Look absurdly silly when it's nothing but QUALITY. OS has both.
>>

>vlcsnap
Nobody apparently cares to tell me what I should be using instead of VLC.
>wrong aspect ratio
I don't like watching anything with vertical letterboxing because it looks fucking retarded and is distracting.
>>
>>121766105
>Touch, CCS
Have you seen the Touch BDs? Like Creamy Mami, they are horrible. Degrained until there is little detail left, or a digital upscale of a much lower resolution master. Whatever they did to them, they look awful.

CCS is degrained too, but not nearly to the same extent as the others. Not even as bad as Zeta Gundam (or other Sunrise shows on BD from that era). But the chromatic aberrations are really noticeable, which they should have fixed.
>>
>>121766410
This has got to be bait.
>>
>>121763904
No actually, there is a fundemental loss of detail from degraining an image

Whereas vinyl sound is all placebo
>>
>>121763829

Where is that CHAR from?

You are beyond help, Birry. Things which were made to be viewed in 4:3 must be watched in 4:3. You are only hurting yourself by stretching them and turning the characters into fat heads.
>>
>>121766618
People like him are why the Beautiful Dreamer blu ray is fucking cropped.

I hear this so often, but it never ceases to amaze me how technologically retarded some people are. This is easily the dumbest thing anyone can say about anything AV related.
>>
>>121766663
The horrible thing is you are completely right, and there are so many people like him too.
>>
>>121766663

Man thats such a shame, that movie is 10/10.
Hopefully Lum the forever doesnt get that shit treatment, it was a 11/10 too.
>>
>>121766618
I could easily crop it to fit into my monitors frame without the letterboxing but I would rather somewhat stretch the image than actually remove part of the image. The only other solution would be to buy a fucking 4:3 monitor specifically for viewing 4:3 videos. This is the same dumbass argument as people who say graphic filters on emulators is wrong even though it appears much more pixelated on a clear monitor.
>>
>>121766817
I'm not too big on DBZ or buying localized DVD/BDs, but I feel really bad for DBZ fans. Funimation directly listened to retards like >>121766410 and did pan and scan with harsh DNR, all because "muh widescreen" on a show that wasn't even made in fucking widescreen. I hate people.
>>
>>121766857
I think Beautiful Dreamer is just a BD release of an earlier transfer they did, where they also cropped it. One of the newer DVD releases.

If Lum the forever is like that too, then it will probably be done in the same way.
>>
>removing muh grain
>cutting off the top and bottom of the original picture to make it fit HURR HD WIDESCREEN aspect
No sir, I don't like it.

Lum the forever wasn't cropped IIRC.
>>
>>121766922
Why not just stop being a faggot and get a 16:9 monitor and view at 4:3 like everyone else?

Also,
>using shitty filters
>old games
>not buying a PVM or a good CRT monitor specifically for old games

It all makes sense now, you're are the highest caliber of retard. I can agree on a scan line filter if you mean that though.

Maybe one day a show I view as 10/10 material besides Utena will get an insanely high quality release.
