No kidding, it does seem a bit garish. It may be that they wanted to introduce more details since it's 3DCG.
Though, I'm more perplexed with the eye design. It almost looks like it's intended to be a blind Evangelion or something which would be pretty neat, but it wouldn't make too much sense at all.

That was pretty good.
There's a lot of detail and liveliness in the motion that I feel CGI anime shows don't really do.
I get that it's expensive and time consuming to do it, but it's often jarring when the characters just stiffen up and stop moving when they're replicating what 2D animation does.

Yeah, compared to something like the CGI parts ofPower Plant 33, there was a lot more movement and fluidity of movement. Refreshing to see, at the least.

I like it, some movements were bad, but overall really good, the music felt off, which is weird knowing that eva mostly does't do that.

It's hard to say whether Japs hated it or not.
It didn't release in a lot of theaters, so it seemed to be a manufactured shortage.
Though, they kind of hate the lead Jap girl for not going through their creepy idol process before becoming a Western actress.
I'm sure plenty of people in Japan liked it though.

Something about the thickness of the outlines helped it look less shit to me.
