It's not made for forced drama, it's more of a sci fi story proposing the question "what if the government provided eugenics/research based arranged marriages" and is more questioning the legitimacy of young love instead of trying to create a story where star-crossed lovers are pulled apart because of THE MAN.
This is why the arranged fiancee character is supportive and accommodating and why the first love is the same.
Just finished this today and loved it.
I was just wondering why the art was so good compared to other weekly shonen jump series?
Was it that the mangaka's work ethic/assistants was better or am I missing something? This series was consistently great through all 233 chapters, I just find it amazing that it was week to week(not counting hiatuses).

Again, I think you're wrong considering the sci fi angle is brought up very frequently. Perhaps I'm wrong saying it's more about the sci fi, but that's what stuck with me more while reading it seeing as the romance itself didn't seem to be given actual focus. The "main couple", as it were, has already had all its development so unlike a typical romance manga that development isn't the draw. Instead, there is talk on why the arranged marriage might be a good idea, why "true love" is inefficient, and the benefits of letting yourself be controlled rather than enjoying your fleeting freedom. Hell, the MC even says as much at at least one point; how he enjoys being with his first love but is aware that this may all collapse in even a day.
