Haibane Renmei is my favourite of his. It's nearly perfect.
Niea_7 is pretty good. It's not on the same level as the others, but it's still got a pretty great atmosphere, though with an even more 90s aesthetic than Lain had.

NieA_7 is amazing and by far the most subtle one at conveying the characters emotions and the general atmosphere.

For me, Niea started off a little weak, then got better once Chigasaki started being developed more, from the mid point on. The episodes whereNiea disappearsare very good indeed.
It comes in, tells its story and then quietly bows out. I liked it a lot. I wasn't a fan of the girl who kept shouting at everything, but that's ok because she just vanishes for some reason later on anyway.
It's well worth the watch.

It is by far the most personal feeling of the projects ABe has been involved with in my opinion. I can see why a lot of people don't appreciate it though, what with the weird and wacky humor, the lackluster animation, and some plain mediocre episodes. A lot of people are probably going into it expecting something "DEEP" and mysterious like a Texhnolyze, Lain or Haibane Renmei and are likely disappointed to find that it is just a really human and emotional story about the characters muddling along in their lives.
