Now here's where they really fucked up, they took to Twitter. To fucking Twitter, most of the people involved never made a fucking Twitter before and went in there full on as if it was /v/ and got the shock of their lifetime - if you use slurs and threatening language all in the ever vague guise of "ethics", you'll look like an underaged CoD kiddie who has no idea what they're talking about. Also, it was spammed on almost every fast moving board. Even if you didnt want to see it, someone in some unrelated thread would bring it up regardless of how obtuse the topic is.
Then the media played them every step of the way because the people they were dealing with are the sons and daughters of fucking millionaires who have connections all over the place, actual conartists, parasitic net-entrepreneurs who'll use any chance to insert themselves and promote their business/themselves.
They got a number of small victories like getting sites to adopt a code of ethics, having advertisers pull from sites but thats not after weeks of both sides repeatedly embarrassing themselves.
