Recently finished this series. I don't mind the silly tactics and the overuse of historical quotes (albeit they did leave a sour taste) but the lack of technological advancement makes the show inconsistent with its space setting. That's a flaw that I cannot ignore.
The characters are cardboard cutouts and that hurts the storytelling.

The minor characters tend toward cutouts but each has a unique thing going and that's enough in a show of this magnitude. I would absolutely love to hear how Yang Wen-Li is a cardboard cutout however.

They pretty much explain this in the first season. Yang starts talking about the push button wars and how most of the technological advancement came from counter measures to various types of radars and jammers.

I think it's fair to say that the characters aren't as deep as they could be, and that there are a lot of plot and setting elements that could be fleshed out. However, the scale of the show is absolutely immense, and I think the depth is acceptable when that's taken into consideration. LoGH is very much about the big picture, and I think it hits the important points very successfully.

It's true that the show is immense but that's how it tricks some into thinking that it's great.
It's kinda like how people think ASOAIF is good because of the the amount of characters, factions and plotlines. With that said, LOGH is shorter than ASOIAF so that's a plus for the former.

There are definitely some parallels between LoGH and GoT, but LoGH got a lot of things right that GoT utterly failed at.
I think there's a lot of very good quality content in LoGH, and it's consistently good enough that the whole show holds up very well. It moves at a very quick pace too, so anything that's subpar tends to be over quickly, and then you're back into good content again.

There's nothing really wrong with this. It's just part of the setting.

That's because most of them are merely supporting characters, and these supporting characters are pretty much simple people. Do you really want to know more about Poplan's past or what goes on in Eisenach's head? Sure, it might be interesting, but that would ruin the narrative of the series. They don't really matter when it comes to the central conflict. LOGH just gave personality to the supposed nameless, faceless background character, and I don't really see how that's such a bad thing.

It's almost been a year since the announcement. We should be getting something soon. Hopefully it's an OVA and not a TV work, so the likes of CR won't pick it up therefore shitting up these threads with newfags and stupid questions.
That being said if it's an OVA we can say goodbye to day 1 subs. Unless CA is still a group that does thing, perhaps they'll even revive for this project.

I just wish the Gaidens were about people other than Yang and Reinhardt. Sure they're the main characters and have pretty interesting backstories. But there are certain individuals and groups that deserved the Gaiden screentime than them. Like Mitts and Reuenthal or the FPA's Spartanian fights. Heck even another D. Sinclair documentary about the Galactic Federation and Rudolph's rise to power.
