Probably, the source of mana in society is being augmented by the defeated DRAGONs which are retrieved as raw material to be processed. My theory is that the mana humans get comes from where the DRAGONs come from.
For DRAGONs, mana is literally life and moves everything onwards. Humans harness mana in order to live a utopian lifestyle. At first when mana was discovered, it was used by only a few chosen, but when technology marched on, more people could use it.
At first DRAGONs didn't bother with it until they found out that their world is slowly dying and that it is because humans are sucking it more and more.
Thus DRAGONs see humans as Blood Ravens...ekhm, I mean bloody magpies and have against humanity a genocidal grudge.
